Looking for input or suggestions on a new challenge no the bunny has not been hit yet, but looking ahead after the inevitable. would like to hear some suggestions from you guys, who knows your idea may be used and posted on here making you an instant legend??? tuesdays i am in the shop with an abundance of steel, welders, and time so lets hear it.

Jeff -
I'm going to think about this one for a bit. BTW, one of my buddies shot a nice bull last weekend with his bow about 5 miles south of Billings on some leased land. Said there were two bigger bulls, but couldn't get close enough to them for a shot.

dr mike, guy, scotty, desert fox, 257 ackley???

I think have a bunch of "DOG" target silouhettes with the 9-12" center would be cool to shoot at. All you Marines should remember the DOG target as the representation of the upper 1/4 of a man sized target. At the old MC rifle range it was the 300 yard rapid fire target. Scotty

How about steel bowling pins.
You could make the front V formation. A center pin hit would ring all of them.

I'd go with Sasquatch and have free-swinging nuts act as the "gong."

His name wouldn't happen to be mike by chance would it? I think he may be hididng the location from you I live 7 miles south of billings and there's no elk within 30 miles of billings. Did he mention pompeys pillar?

I already did the sasquatch thing but I had him facing away so I could raise the difficulty by shooting him in the poker chip or the taint as its known in some circles.

How about a human size head with a tube (like a scope) extending from his eye area.

El Chupacabra?

A rattlesnake stretched out on the ground would make for a near impossible task.

Si grande chupacabra amigo!

That's a good idea smith! I could probably get a bsa scope cheaper than a piece of tubing to make it more realistic!
Well done.

I'd say life size target of the animal we hunted. Set them up as far as you care to shoot, and see if you can hit the vital with your cold bore shot... only one shot! no sighter. It would be a confidence builder for sure.

Good idea DF I have a coyote built to spec with no head vitals are as close to real as possible. That sits at 550 but I think I may move it the girlfriend can hit that fairly easily. Oh I am going to order a barrel for my bat the middlestead is being built on. My gunsmith said that its fairly simple to swap them out since the bat has the built in recoil lug I am going to do a 6.5x47 on that platform for matches should work just fine and save some money.

550 yards would be too easy even for a novice. I would love to have a coyote size target to practice on for a mile shoot with either my 338 Lapua Ackley or my 7 WSM.

You know I might just make one. :p

The guys doing those old black powder rifle shoots have a steel BISON at those 600, 1000 yard ranges. If they can do it with a black powder rifle with those old 1800's erra scopes or open sights and put one in the vitals, a guy with a great scope and one of those new thunder sticks should be able to get one in there! Have him a sold tan color to make seeing hits simple enough with good optics, and put a 10 inch cirlce behind his shoulder for the 10X.
