I may have the opportunity to acquire one of these in 270 wsm. It would require me to give up my christensen in 257 wby but it would basically be a straight up trade.

I have kind of kicked myself for selling my 270 wsm and I am not overly impressed with the 257 wby as a caliber but I love the rifle.

moey wise I would be a little ahead maybe but basically a wash

The 270WSM will do anything the 257WBY can do and more. 150's at over 3100 are pretty easy and 130's will go into the deep 3300's without too much drama either. Yeah, that would be an easy trade. I kinda think the 270WSM is about the most versatile cartridge I own. Works great for deer and works for elk sized game all while shooting flat and hitting pretty danged hard. Plus, it is SIMPLE to load for. Scotty

Well we will have to see he wants to shoot my rifle and then he will let me know what he thinks he was going to sell the nosler to fund a wby ultralightweight .

I love my christensen just not overly impressed with the caliber since I have been getting so much out of my 25.06. The 270 wsm would be more of a do all gun.

I'm gonna go ahead and post a little heresy here. I believe with newer powder and bullet developments the older big cased belted magnums...ie. the Weatherby's (particularly the shorter ones), some of the WMs and even the much loved 7mmRM are pretty well becoming obsolete. In almost all cases you can match the downrange performance if not outright exceed it with a smaller case and shorter barrel.

Sure the big cases fire heavier bullets better, but the newer controlled expansion bullets make those heavy for caliber bullets pretty much irrelevant- and I'm a heavy bullet guy! I've been so impressed with the .300WSM/180AB combo my other rifles are jealous.

A .270WSM, .300WSM, or .325WSM is pretty well capable...no-not just capable, but effective at killing anything on this continent and most of what you'll find on the others. I'd be comfortable with any of them for the run of AK game minus coastal bears and the .325 just isn't far off the mark there either.

Come to think of it- I'll eventually shoot the barrel out of my .300WSM and it just may get a .325 tube instead!

I have done a lot of reading on the WSM and at first most were skeptical about them. But now there are not many that don't at least find them intriguing. I know that before this old boy packs it in I will be owning a 270 WSM. :mrgreen:

Dan the 270WSM was my first one and man, I have to say it is still my favorite. It is very easy to load for, accurate and what a flat shooting cartridge. I have to force myself not to use it. It just plain works. Scotty

Scotty I am going to see how this 35 Whelen turns out and if it is as good as I think it will be. I am likely going to liquidate my rifle collection and order a RMR but in the 270 WSM and then just have the 2 well maybe :mrgreen:

I would trade personally. The 270 WSM is a more utilitarian cartridge than the 257 Roy. But especially since you already have a 25-06, I would definately make that trade. But its what you want that matters my friend.
