You know those Big Bucks that get wise and know where it is safe? Right at dusk, my cross hairs were on a 140 - 150" 5x5 Whitetail that was on the "WRONG" side of the fence. Lot's of orange paint and "No Trespassing" signs. He was just 50 - 60 yds from where I could have shot him. Oh Well ..... We watched him with a doe for about 5 minutes from 60 yds to 200 yds as he chased her. He was not going to leave her. It was pretty exciting.

That is the way she goes. I watched two fine moose within forty yards of where we sat this fall. They dined on succulent alfalfa, ignoring the tender willow branches where we were situated. Score "zero" for the hunter. Noah watched a sprightly whitetail buck dance back and forth a couple of weeks ago. The dandy little feller was within forty yards of where we situated. There was no way he was leaving where he was. I explained to the boy wonder that this is why it is called hunting and not called harvest.

Teknys-Moths and rust will never get trophies of the spirit! Ya done good. Makes a good story and it was fun to watch wasn't it. Well done. CL

That is one of the reasons I always pack a HD video camera and a gorilla-pod. Either way, if I see wildlife, I'm shooting it.

An ethical dilemma the Indians did not have, before there were property lines. LOL.

I feel your pain, brother. After keeping an eye on a really nice buck all summer and fall, I shot a smaller buck on Saturday because I hadn't been seeing much in my area. Don't you know it...the big buck walked up within 20 yards of me on Sunday, and stayed there for 5 minutes. It will haunt me for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, but what memories you now possess. Moreover, it will be a great story to tell to others in years to come as you share laughs around the campfire.

You want to here a simulary story. I was hunting South Dakota deer hunting and had a doe cross a fence and did not offer me a shot one evening. The good news I went there the next morning and shot a doe within 10 yards of where one crossed the night before and only 10 feet inside the fence I was allowed to hunt. I think it was the one that out foxed me the night before.
A 50-60 yard shot with a 300 H&H Mag with a 180gr Nosler AB and I had my doe tag filled.

Not too many years ago I had my two boys and a friend in my truck driving around a long loop of fence line in late December. It was 2nd rut and a big one was tailing a doe. Never quite counted the points, did not have to as he was over 20" wide and at least a 5x5. Dark brown antlers and a wide head/neck. Just an impressive alpha buck you only see during the rut.

Both of them ran over to the fence, jumped it and then stopped about 50 yards on the other side..........

"shootem dad"............... both boys said...............................

"I can't boys, he is on the wrong side of the fence".......................

To me it is like breaking into a neighbors house. There is just no other way to see it.

That's a good way of looking at this. I like it. I will quote you in the future when these conversations come up -Thanks!

The ol saying is you can't kill a big buck unless your willing to pass up small ones.. sometimes that is easier said then done..
Property lines and legal light , there are rules for a reason, the reward is much greater when you have done things the "right way".
Teknys you did it right and sooner or later it will pay off!

Of course, the reward is immediate when you do the ethical thing--your character is stronger and those who are watching and learning from you receive immediate training.
