I was going to load up some light rounds to break in a barrel and use up some old supplies. I have some 150 gr interbonds and some 10+ year old reloader 19. I read the SAAMI specs on powder deterioration and it seems to indicate an acidic smell, but it really did not smell any different than a new bottle of imr7828 to my nose. what do you think - bad idea? What would the outcome of firing deteriorated powder be?

If it smells fine (like powder should smell) and still looks like RL19, and not some ball powder due to disintegration, its fine. I have 20yr old powder on my bench that's fine as can be. If it's bad, it will noticeably smell different. Your nose will let you know immediately.

I'd have alot more shelf room if I tossed my 10 yr old powder but that ain't gonna happen! LOL
Your most likely very good to go!

Good advice that.

RL19 was off the shelves 10-12 years ago due to huge lot to lot variances. It's not dangerous, but can be if you were duplicating a powder charge of a slow lot with a fast lot. I'm sure it will work fine but might not be repeatable with a new can.

I'd say shoot it. If it smells good, I think it is perfect to use for your application.
