From another site,
All lead core bullets expand less at lower speeds even the Partition
True, but at some point the gameking will start becomeing a solid, and it will be LONG before the Partition "nose" will stop expanding. That is what makes the NP so much better than the others...

At another time in my life, i tested thousands and thousands of bullets, in all kinds of medium and big game, so i have some kind of idea how all of this works.

In fact i designed bonded core bullets and was swageing and selling them back when Bill Steiger and i, were the only ones doing it.
I still like the Partition better, than even the bonded bullets on the market today, at least for big game here in the U.S..
DM

Pretty interesting compliment?

Earle, sounds like DM who ever he is was very informative and if Scotty is really interested in remaking the BBC he might be someone Scotty would like to talk to. Which site are you referring to? Sounds like a good place to explore.

I find it really hard to find any bullets that really beat a PT in deer-moose sized stuff. On rare occasions I've seen them do wonky things but I've yet to see one actually fail as it was designed on game animals. Seen them get chewed up pretty seriously on bull elk leg joints but those were always on the far side of the killing.

I still like to try new bullets and like the AB a whole lot but if I'm hunting for something serious a PT is a sure thing in my book. Others are proposed as "better" on paper but in the hunting fields I bet it'd take a whole lot of shooting to prove one over the other.

They are still the "cornerstone" we will always compare other bullets too. I always carryed a few 220gr shells in my pocket years ago while guiding in Alaska when carrying my 30 Whelen, on more than one occasion, I can remember sliding out a 165gr solid base and replacing it with a Nosler Partition 220.
It proved to knock the snot out of a few mountain grizzlys, and worked well on Moose.

Be interested in knowing who "DM" is and what bullets he was making and selling. Late in the game, the only one who was making and marketing bonded bullets for a time was Joe Abrams, who was taught by Bill Steigers.

And of course Jack Carter of TBBC came later, and then Lee Reid of Swift Aframe. I can't recall anyone else who was making bonded bullets when Steigers was the only game in town.

We used to Buy Bills bullets and they were the Cadillac for sure, and Lee send me up bullets to test for him on Brown Bears and they worked nicely as well, but I cant place this DM was either?.

I have been using the Partitions since the very early 60's on deer and elk primarily. My primary bullet in my 300 WM for elk and deer is the 180 gr. When using a lighter caliber, (06) in the past I used 150's for deer and 180's for elk. I have used a few other bullets in the past but found them lacking. With the Grand Slam three mule deer taken at close range, all ended up with as lot of hamburger as a result of the bullets breaking up. Last season I used the .284, 162 gr. Hornady PSP on an elk at 320 yards, same issue the bullet came apart. The 160 Barnes x actually held together on 3 elk, and had decent expansion but all of the elk wandered about for a while, which caused my to miss another opportunity in one situation. My second elk last year at 300 yards was shot with a 160 AB which gave me perfect performance, if the accuracy was a little better I would be happier but .800 is not too bad. Over the years I have found the Partition can give me feet of penetration rather than inches, and we have recovered very few of them. Here are a few that we have recovered from a large number of elk, these are all 180 Partitions.

Check out my photo's in my post regarding Model 70 safety topic, for some other pictures showing results.

Bill, that picture could make a believer out of doubters. Excellent.

Bill,
Having shot some Elk with 180gr PT , from my 30 Whelen, I had exactly the same experences with them that you have 100% reliable! And for game over 500lbs , I think they really come into their own. That is a great line up of exactly what to expect
From them. When you speak of Elk and Moose , I am always on board for Partition Bullets! Thanks for posting that.
