Pretty nice wood on this Winnie

That is nice wood. The initial production from the SC plant in 2008 was built with exceptional wood. Here's three of mine from that same production run:

The price on that 30-06 is quite good, however.

Wow, that wood is gorgeous and almost too purdy to take out into the woods.

Mike,

Beautiful rifle collection you have there.

What calibers are those in Mike? That's a gorgeous trio!!

nice wood. dr mike i did get a chance to handle a win mod 70 supergrade built in 1937. it said 375 magnum on the barrel my smith said that back then that was the only magnum available and thats why they did that. condition was 99% and the value was estimated at 10-14k pretty amazing. he didnt think it was even fired other than at the factory. i was impressed.

30-06, 270WSM and 300WSM. They each shoot quite well. I have no particular complaints. Winchester sent out some very handsome rifles when they were first starting the SC factory, and I do feel fortunate to have caught these particular rifles. Surprisingly, there are still examples floating around that I see once in a while.

Those are really nicely stocked Model 70's, DrMike. I never saw any of those around here in our local stores. Good thing, I guess, or I would own several more rifles than I already do!

Man, that is a nice 30-06 right there! Not too bad on the price either.

Jake, that 338-06 is very nice.

RR,

I do hunt them. The 30-06 has taken a mule deer, though I haven't pulled the trigger on it with other game yet. The 270WSM has taken moose, elk and whitetail. It works very well on this game. The 300WSM has yet to be blooded. I think it will get a chance this fall.

Jake,

The 338-06 is a very handsome rifle; and it is a cartridge that I think of very highly.

Once in awhile I get a decent piece of wood. I don't really go looking for it though. I like the straight grain to a point.

That is a handsome stick, Scotty. I do like the look and feel of wood.

Same here Mike. I really like the Laminates alot as well. I guess after all this time, I like them all, but plastic. I have become a big fan of the B&C Medalists, and will probably drop the Whelen into one of them in the future, but I like the Featherweight stock as well. The two laminates on my 7WSM and 270WSM fit me well to and seem to carry just fine. I haven't actually had an issue with an of them them. Thinking about doing one of the Stocky's laminates for a 358 Magnum of some sort. Who knows, I will close my eyes and pick when I get to that bridge. Not sure I could make a bad choice..
