I have another 30-06 headed my way ( another Mod 700 Mountain Rifle, 1986 yr) and I have these two bullets I'd like to use first. Barrel is 22". I'm interested in H4350/H4831/R17/R16/R23 among the IMR 4350, etc. Thanks!

I looked through the Search but can't find what I'm looking for. I'm looking for loads that are in the 63-64K area. Myself, I see nothing different from the .270 win cases and 30-06 cases, so I like to load them alike. I just never used R16,R17 behind the 200 PT. Not much concerned about the 150, I used 59/IMR 4350 for decades and still use it. Any help from the 30-06 crowd tonight? :)

Preacher,

Not a QL but Sierra VI lists RL 16 from 46.3 to 52.8, RL 17 from 45.8 to 51.6, H4350 from 46.8 to 53.1, & RL 22 rather than 23 from 51.5 to 56.0 behind their 200 gr. bullets. I believe these are held back to SAAMI max for 30-06. With the 150s, H4350 ranges from 53.4 to 60, RL 17 from 51.1 to 57.9, & RL 22 from 54.7 to 60.3. All above with WW brass & WLRs. Not exactly what you were looking for but it's a place to start.

Never loaded the 200 gr in 06, but the 4831's whether H, or IMR should be well suited to that weight.

That said the 4350's of either H, or IMR will work also.

Any of those 4 powders should get you at or north of 2500 in a 22" barrel. The 4831's will do it with a full case while still staying under pressure.

Thanks guys. I used 54gr IMR 4350/Sierra 200 SBT for years in an old 1917 Enfield. I later shot the same bullet in a 30-06 Ackley Imp. over 62gr R22 with great accuracy.

The Speer manual shows 45.4 gr. of Re17 as the starting load for 2324 FPF and 50.4 for 2561 FPS. Their test barrel was 24".

Thanks Paul. Most data keeps the 30-06 at SAAMI, I like to push them at 64K or so. I have some good starting points.

Loaded 200 grain Hornady ELDX on the last weekend., 60 grains of RL-26 and over 2800 fps. Will be trying this with 200 grain Accubonds as soon as they come in. Load was comfortable and primers looking normal.

Impressive! 2800 fps with a good 200 gr bullet is getting to be a pretty danged serious load.

Used the 200 gr Nosler Partition and H4350 for an accurate, easy-shooting 2600 fps load. Worked well on wolf and grizzly three years ago.

Perhaps not the speed some seek, but it shot so well that I just left it at that level. I think it would make a dandy load for elk too, and not just in the timber. Zeroed at 200 yards it was easy to ring the 300 yard gong. Recoil felt more like a push, instead of a harsh rap.

Regards, Guy

Funny how that works Guy. Shooting 180 gr round nose today with 56.2 gr of IMR 4350 I swore it didn't recoil as sharply as using 57 gr's of the same powder and 165 gr boat tails. On paper the 180 grain at that powder charge would produce about 1 ft lb more recoil but it sure didn't feel like it.

Double Dropper, holy cow that is a smoking load with 200 gr bullets out of an 06! That RL 26 must really shine with the heavyweights.

Played around quite a bit this weekend but very impressed with RL-26. Primers look round at the edges and theres probably room for more but its grouping sweet. Shot up to 63 grains behind a 180 grain AccuBond, didnt chrono the load but it was 3 in well under an inch at 100. Loaded up some RL-16 under 165 grain Ballistic Tips, will be playing today. Working from home, range is off the back deck, so its reload, shoot and work all in pyjamas LOL
