Reduced loads

Anybody make reduced loads for say squirrel or turkey hunting? First time I ever did it was with a 222 Rem using a Sierra 40gr Semi Point with 6grs of Green Dot. Accuracy was about the size of a nickel at 50 yds but good enough to squirrel hunt with. Have a 223 Rem load of 20grs H4895 with 55gr Hornady bullets. Killed couple of squirrels, 1 coon (bonus prize) but no turkey as of yet.

Just wondered if anyone else played around with their rifles for such things. Dan.

I've done 5.0 gr. of Unique and a 110 gr. cast bullet in both the .308 and 30-06 fpr plinking and small game. They work well out to 50-60 yards.

I’ve used a bunch of H4895 for the 243, 7-08 and 6.5 Swede. 2200-2400 loads seem mighty pleasant to younger hunters and still kill deer just fine at woods ranges.

Yeah I used H4895 reduced load for a grandson. Works well. Got a couple more grandkids hope get interested as well. Dan.

Yup. Not real often, but just for the heck of it I've made reduced loads for my:

30-30
375 H&H
45-70

I have with two .223,s I used H335 and Imr 4198 under 55/60 Grain hornady bullets w/ a canulure.
Goal was to duplicate 22 hornet velocities. 2,600 fps, Works great on turkeys. Deadly w/ little meat damage on body shots.

Unique works pretty well in most anything using a cast bullet, Around 10 grains for 308 capacity and up.
Bit better accuracy and velocity with 2400 in 30-06, I4759 in 308, A5744 in 375, all gas checked.

25-06 is I4759 and a 100 grain Sierra Jacketed Target bullet. Tiny hole thru small game and very accurate.

Read in Ken Waters Pet Loads that Col Whelen carried grouse loads for his rifles after carefully developing them to shoot to point of aim as his hunting load. Thanks for sharing your loads. Dan.

Yes Bluedot in .223Rem makes me wonder why someone would buy a .22 Mag or 22 Hornet rifle when brass is so cheap for .223 Rem. and Bluedot work very well.
I also like how the barrel stays cool after a lot of rounds.

I love reduced loads. This summer I made some low recoil .243s for an 8 year old with H4895 and 55gr Varmint Grenades. Recoil-less and accurate.
