Does anyone have a good load for 60 grs Nosler Partition for 223 rem, N140 powder . I have a Remington 700 bdl 1:12 twist. So far I've tried with 24.8, 25 and 25.2 grs load with N140 but none of them grouped very well. So hopefully some out there have some good loads they can share with me and the rest of the forum :p. I'm also very thankful if someone can run this bullet and powder in QL.

Thanks!

308nm,

First of all, welcome to the forum !

I'm going to have to preface this with a huge caution because I'm not sure where I got this load data and we're using two different bullets...
I use 60gr B-tips out of my VTR w/ a 1:9 twist. N140, CCI-BR's & 26.0 grains. Again, I have it written down in my book and currently what I'm using, but no documentation of where I got that short of potentially playing with the Viht Reloading Manual online???

Work up slowly... the N140 is pretty slow in my opinion, but seems to work ok. I use a lot more of it in my 22-250

Powerstrok, thanks for sharing your experience!

I've been thinking of increasing the load a little bit. I see that loads close to 26grs with a 60 grs bullet is not uncommon. But I also see that when I'm using 25.2 grs of powder the case is prety full. I will try to increase the load carefully towards 26 grs and see if the shots are grouped better. If not I'll lean towards the explanation of stabilization problems...:)?:).

Well, I have a couple of comments here.

First of all, N 140 and Varget are so very close in burning rate that you could use Varget loading data provided you start on the low end.

Secondly, your gun may just never shoot the 60 grain Nosler Partition well. I had a Remington 700 BDL in .223 Remington that had the standard 1 in 12 twist. It would not shoot the 60 grain Partition worth beans.

Welcome to the forum, glad you are here.

As RF mentioned, the 60 gr PT may not stabilize in a 1:12 twist.
Also keep in mind that the PT will run at higher pressures than the BT or cup and core bullets. Just work up carefully.
Let us know what your range results are.

I had to switch powder to get the 60gr partitions to shoot in my AR.
It decided it liked IMR4895 for the partitions.
