Reloder 16 powder

Fascinating! And, yes, you are likely correct in surmising that this would be an excellent fit with the 35 Whelen.

Fotis, I have tried RL-17 in the 35 AI with heavier bullets and gets more speed than the RL-15 does. But it is compressed loads.

Burn rate is supposed to be very similar to IMR4350. I have asked them for the VMD factor for it. If its dense like the newer powders hitting the market but with IMR4350 burn rates it will "fill" many a case in the future!

I like it... Seems like it might be faster than 4350... Should be the HEAT in the Whelen!

When is going to be available and have load data for it?

Rodger, there was some load data for the powder in the link Fotis posted.

Looks to be a pretty good powder.
I am anxious to see what it will do in the 35 Whelen.

Yup, my thoughts exactly!

Theres a 130 NPT load for the 270 Win there at 3200fps. Interesting that a faster powder than 4350 can achieve that with obviously tested and approved pressures.

The 150g 270 Win loads are no slouch either. Way above Hodgdon max 270 Win loads.

I saw that as well. These newer powders just make the old Favorites look better and better. I'm thinking it will be dynamite in the 7x57 as well.

...good...

...maybe you guys will quit buying up all my RL-17...

I just looked up RL 16 on the Alliant web site, and noted no recipes for 308 Win. There are loads listed there for RL 15 (excellent with 308), and RL 17 (pretty good). Seems to me a powder right in the middle of the 2 would be a pretty good powder for 308. Any thoughts?

Kind of remains to be seen what the burn rate actually turns out to be.
If it's between 15 and 17 as guessed it should be pretty strong.
I just wonder if with the 23 and 26 if this is to update or enhance (big difference  ) existing offerings?
I am a fan many of their offerings. Hope this just adds to them.

I may be wrong but I've noticed they are advertising the newer powders as Temp stable so I'm thinking they are trying to keep up with Hodgdon and IMR with the extreme powders.

They're doing that for 2 reasons...

1- Most of the powders we consumers get are formulas that failed government contract testing....Uncle Sam wants temp stable powders with a long shelf life.

Many of these new powders only have a 10 year shelf life.

2- Most consumers want temp stable powders.
