I had been eyeballing this rifle in a pawn shop for about two months. Its a rem model 30 express in "Springfield 30 Cal 1906". Later named 30-06. 8) The scope is a Weaver model 29S made in El Paso, Texas. 8) It is a 2x fixed with a dot retical and very faint horizontal and vertical lines. They wanted $400 for it. I offered $250 the other day and they let me take it home. I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned it. Then I cleaned it again. There was a copper mine down the barrel and a gum factory in the action. After cleaning I was very impressed with the overall condition of the rifle and was taken back when I examined the bore. It looks like there was no more than 300 to 400 rounds down it.
Any way I loaded up some 150 gr bt's from start to max and found this group. The load is 150gr Nosler BT, Rem brass, Fed 210, RL-19 60.5gr, coal is .010 off the lands. The group measured 1.5 at the widest point. Not subtracting for the bullet diameter. The funny thing is the retical darn near covers the 6" orange circle on the target @ 100 yds. The trigger pull is about a 1/2" long at about 8 lbs.
I think if I mounted a 3x9 on it and installed a Timney this gun would be a one hole shooter. I am going to leave it in the original condition because somethings need character and this rifle definately has it.
