Rooster!

One old man, two old dogs, one old shotgun, one hour, one shot, one rooster. Best way I know to walk the dogs in the morning.

Yeah that's the way to do it.
Wish there was still some Roosters around here. No till farming and fence row removal killed them off .

Same in our valley, started going south in the mid 80s, bigger farms bigger tractors etc. fewer fence rows, fewer pheasants.

Truth be told I’d rather work the dogs and let others shoot. If I do too much shooting the dogs can get sloppy because I’m focused on getting the flush and not the dog behavior. If I’m working the dogs I can miss the opportunity to shoot because I’m focused on making sure they are steady to wing and shot kind of thing. Catherine loves watching the dogs, today she ”forgot” her shotgun.
