I was just kinda thinking about something. I have a Ruger M77 in 300WM right now, trying to sell it, but I was wondering, would this rifle work if it was rechambered to a 375 Ruger? I don't know the dimensions of the Ruger case and since I am away from my books right now, I was pondering this. The rifle is in pretty good shape and if it doesn't sell, I will likely make it into something else? I am not sure if I really want an actual 375 Ruger, but one of the other offspring might be neat. Although, it would fix the problem of me not have a 375 also! Anyhow, just wondering what you all think about this? Scotty

The 375 R uses the same bolt head, and action lenght. I don't think you would have to do anything to the feeding rails. As far as I know it should work.

DO IT!
Everybody needs a .375 of some sort!

I think it will work. I might be a little concerned (probably without reason) about feed rails on the magazine. Your .300 is a laminate, right? I think that would be a better stock that the walnut Ruger puts on the .375R. I read lots of stories about the tang splitting on the OE stocks. And I HATE the Hogue Overmold stocks the Alaskans come with.

Chambering? The .375 would be alright, but a .35/375 would be cool as heck... serious elk/moose stomping horsepower! Twist it fast enough to shoot Swift 280s. Black Ceracoat, and a Leupy 2-5-8x and you wouldn't need to buy a rifle for at least five months!

Man, that would be a horse. Those 375 Rugers that I've shot were wonderfully accurate.

I think so too Jake. This rifle does have the laminate stock and I think it would be much more suited to a heavier cartridge than the 300WM. I think a set of pillars and some bedding would make it pretty tolerable. I was kinda thinking of the 35/375, 375 Ruger, or the 416 Ruger. All three of them have some real merit. I am not really looking to do anything right away anyhow, so I have some time to mull it over.

How do you like your 375 Ruger. I like the case design a bunch and it seems like a pretty awesome round. Any ideas on barrels or twists needs for 260-300's?

Kurt, I think it would be okay, or at least only need a little smoothing. The rifle is built like a tank in all honesty and seems better proportioned for a heavy rifle than just a too danged heavy 300WM! Just figure if I can't sell it for a decent price, that it would make a cool bigger bore rifle, and not cost me a ton of money. Scotty

Pretty neat case too, no belt and such. I think it would make a neat rifle, and good use of a current one I have and don't do much with. I guess I will see if it goes or not, then decide. I really don't need a 375 Ruger for much, but what does that have to do with anything! Scotty

For sure, its an addiction that has seized your soul. Of course, you NEED a 375 Ruger. It fills the space between the 35 Whelen and the 45-70. Man, everything has to be justified!

Wow, when you put it like that Mike, I really see what Jake was talking about. When you say need, well, what am I to do other than listen to the good Doctors advice. I will have to look over the rifle some and see what should be done. I would like to have nice sights put on the barrel as well.. Scotty

Man, that's handy having a doctor around to blame for fueling our RADD. "But the doctor told me it was imperative I buy this new Model 70!" Thanks, Mike!

You're welcome fellows. That's why I'm here. When I was investing time fishing, I once phoned the work number of a buddy. I left word with his boss that he had a hydrotherapy appointment with his doctor at 1:30 in my Brunette office (the Brunette River being one of our favourite streams). The boss sent him packing for the afternoon. He knew exactly where to find me. Ah, yes, I've turned many a young man to the dark side.

Scotty,

I am not a Ruger man but I think it would work. The 375 Ruger is impressive.
Think it through because it is not a Win M70. A M70 SG 375 H&H would be awesome!

Scotty, the 375R case is one of the sexiest cases I have seen. Just something about a beltless, standard action case that holds 80+ grs of powder that makes me happy! A 260 AB at 2800-2900 is flat out cool! It sure smacks elk on their hind ends!

A 416R would be pretty dang cool as well.

Scotty! LOL! We all do have it oh so bad don't we!
Whatever you decide will be awesome and I do like the .375 Ruger

I can not believe it is not re barreled already!

Some of us are a little more impetuous than others. :)

Some of us, yes. Others, no :p

Gotta strike while the iron is hot!

Pop you are a one of a kind. I need a 375 as well. Probably be the next gun I buy instead of a 338. I don't need it, but I want one awful bad. Just the fun factor makes it worth the extra powder, shot, dies, etc. 8)

That my friend, is the only reason I have a 375R. Other than scratching my .375 itch, I don't really "need" it.

Don't tell my wife I said that!
