Well after a long while I went out and shot my new rifles. You might remember that I had grown tired of expensive ( and pretty) looking guns shooting like crap so I sold them all and kept/bought the following for all my huning needs.

Savage 11F --223
Savage Tactical-- 25-06
Savage 111f hinged floorplate 7mm rem mag
and my 300 RUM Custom see here........... http://noslerreloading.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6593
WBY Classicmark II MK V in 416 WBY WBY.

Anyway today I was out for the first time with my Savages. They were all unfired. So I made 3-4 different loads for each of them and this is what I got at 100 yards.

223 40 gr BT 3550 fps and .55"
25-06 100 gr BT at 3385 fps and .6"
7mm rem mag 120 BT 3400 fps .345"
7mm Rem mag 160 AB 3075 fps .526"
300 rum 3460 fps 168 TTSX .82" ---- RL 25
300 RUM 3410 fps 168 TTSX .525" ----- Retumbo

Now the 223 and 25-06 will have to be worked over a bit before they are in the acceptable range.

What can I say? Savages rock.

Nice shooting sticks Pop! Congratulations.

Thanx Jim. But the rifles are to be complimented not me......

Savages do shoot good I'm starting to really like my M12 22 250 my best load so far is .58 with 39.5 of H380 but I'v got some more loads to try this weekend that should really shoot. I might have to buy another savage

POP, obviously you like how your Savages shoot, very impressive. 2 questions, how did you feel your 300 RUM handled the big ultra mag rounds in the magazine, cycle rounds etc. & In your opinion, would you want to go with a higher intesity wildcat round based on this action?? I am not aware of any factory offerings in anything bigger than a 300 or 338 Win Mag, that is the only reason I ask. Not meaning to steal this thread tho.

POP,
Wow, nice shooting ! Good to see that RUM doing so well too. Anywhere close to a max load with that yet?

The feeding extraction and everything else was perfect with the RUM. This actio can handle just about anything out there pressure wise. I am pleased!

It should be right around there. The smaller group with the 168 gr TTSX was with 99 gr Retumbo (3410 fps). 100 gr of Retumbo did 3455 fps but was nt as accurate so that makes me feel good, that I am 1 full grain under what I consider max. Anyway 3410 fps with a TTSX????????? Man can you say flat?

Excuse the pix quality not too good... see group sizes above

There will be no end to the .300 ! Sounds like I need to quit being stingy with my powder and lay a little more to mine. I've yet to see that performance out of my Sendero!!!
Congrats again on all of them.

You don't know how close I've come to selling most or all of my rifles, then replacing them with one good Savage for hunting, and another good Savage for target competition...

Guess I'd still need a varmint rifle and a rim fire too.

In 2006 I went hunting with a Savage M114 Classic in .30-'06. I wanted to celebrate the '06's 100th birthday. The other hunts I did that year were with ML rifles, but I did take the Savage antelope hunting in Wyoming.

That rifle came with a test target with a 3-shot group in the 4s, and it shot in the 7s for me with Federal ammo with the 165 Nosler BT.

I don't know where you would find another factory rifle for under $600 street price that shoots like that. ;)

Short of the rimfire, the short action could be switched out with a barrel and bolt face for varmint calibers very easily.

Welcome to the best (almost kept) secret in shooting. Savage rifles.
They've embarrased the big boys for a long time. I love mine too. Sometimes I have to try not to have a swelled head when my first try hand load shoots .6 in groups or in the case of my 270 .75 in. groups (at 200 yds) . I'm glad you finally got a chance to get out and try them. YIPEE!!!
Good Hunting
Elkhunt

I traded for a plain Jane 270 Rem. M700ADL that I have about $400.00 in
that will. It surprised me & shoots about as good as my worked over Sendero. This is with 140Acc., no bedding or anything!

Guy, I got rid of my Remington 7RM last year and bought a Savage 3006 and I have to say I'm nothing but pleased with the accuracy and quality of it. I really love the looks of Remington's but Savage shoots soooo much better. I don't think you would go wrong, and the pocket book would like it better too.
