SHOT ONE & DONE- 1ST SHOT

Great Idea there RS3,

One suggestion, since you are driving the bus on this, how about you standardize the "target", scan it/pdf it and post it here for use, changing/modifying as need be. Then we as end users can print it off..

Then we would all be looking at the same thing, reading the same thing, & hopefully shooting at the same thing.

Just a suggestion (anal ol me )..

Rod I do not believe I am driving the bus, if this is the same bus we are talking about, I believe it's the same one that was driven over me!  Maybe not all folks have a printer? I don't know?? I am not sure if we need a standard target as it does not matter what target we shoot, the idea is simply shoot the eye of the gnat! Aim Small Miss Small! Picture a gopher at 100 yards, and you don't simply want to hit the gopher, you want to hit him dead center in his little heart. So that being said, as I have all of my rifles sighted the same, at 100 yards I would have to hold 2.75 inches low and at 300 I would have to hold about 2 inches high to hit the gnat!

I am all up for this addition though if you want. Maybe you have a good target of about 1.5 - 2 inches in size that we could use. Two or three on one sheet would make it easier to shoot more rifles at one target also. Maybe I can try and do that with one of my targets that has the three diamonds or squares. Let's see what the rest think though too. Don't want to make it too difficult, just want to have fun with this. Oh, by the way you can shoot that fancy smancy 6.5AI Improved Wizz bang-um that you got as there are no restrictions here either. :p

What about the Nosler target that is already a sticky? I got this target off another sight that I really like?

Could just use the Nosler target? Pretty decent set up for shooting. Scotty

In sniper circles, this is called the "cold bore shot." It's the most highly prized trophy in a sniper competition, because really, the first shot is the most important. Often it's taken at 100 yards, but I've seen it done at various ranges out to 600 yards.

The "cold bore shot" is very important to both the tactical shooter and the hunter. Rarely do I take a second shot at a game animal, mule deer anyway.

Regards, Guy

So Guy does that mean you are in? I sure think it's some good practice and as stated heckling is mandatory!

Corey how can I access that target to print it out to full size? What site do we need to go to?

Corey

Corey,

Can you post a link to this target?

JD338

I can not find that target again on the Predator masters web sight. I just spent some time checking. I got it several years ago and have it saved on my computer. I guess who ever wants if you PM me I will send you a copy. Or I can email it too. I'm not smart enough with computers to make it into something you guys can use off this sight. Unless I post a link to photo bucket? Would that work?

Corey

How bout we do this one with Nosler's permission JD338 or any of you kind folks so we don't copyright infringe upon someone as Nodak suggested. This is simple and then we will have a standard target for us all to use. How does this one look guys. It should work from 25-200 yards for us!

David,

Not a problem to use the Nosler target.
It is now officially the target for the "First Shot Cold Bore" competition.

It will go a lot smoother with the next one and I'm sure guys will start posting pictures on this shot pretty soon. I cannot wait to see how it shakes out. Just some really good practice, a little competition, and a little good natured ribbing to go along with it! Awesome.

Just need folks to start shooting and posting pictures of their targets, rifles, loads, and all that good stuff!

Corey you have as long as it takes. You can go post your target on the 1ST SHOT forum whenever. As we go to shot 2 next week, just post those shots there. You can come back again any time and go to any of the shots if you want to do it over again, and do that particular shot and then post it in the appropriate box. We decided since many folks won't have 300 yards we would just do it from 200, but 300 is fine for that one if you have it. Once we get to shot two this will smooth out a bit I think and guys should just start posting targets with brief descriptions and maybe a photo of where they shot from. For example next one is from a day-pack, shooting sticks, or something like that which you would have with you in the field that might be used for a support. To make it more challenging, no bi-pods or sandbags though.

As per ussual I am little late on keeping up with the the thread, but rushed out before work and went to the range. I used the Predator master target, with a 3 x9 power hunting scope at 250 yrds I could see the 3" bull but could notmake out the colors on the target. here is 300 win mag, 180 gr AB. 250 yrds which is what our range is.

Better late than never super-7 as you can see we all are just getting into it. Next week mid-week or so I'll post the SHOT ONE & DONE- 2ND SHOT. Remember too that you can come back to shot (1) later and do it again just for fun also. Nice job.

David, I KNOW you won't believe this, but this is my target from the starting load from the 264WM. It was 64gr's of Retumbo, out of a squeaky clean bore. I CENTER punched the bull... I think I have a little moral ground to stand on cause the next two were low and left... I know I can't claim it is a one and done, but I was working loads! Either way, you asked for a target and I didn't want to disapoint. Scotty
