should I try the 168 LRABs?

They are .2" off the lands from a rem 700 shilen barreled STW and .120" from the win model 70 7 RM.

Seems like a longshot to me anyway. Never had much luck with target bullets anywhere that far off the lands. They like to do the classic 2 in 1 BS which drives me nuts...

These are kinda hard to find so just wondering if any of you are having any luck with them that far off the lands?

If the 7 RM was a rem 700 id be in business. 3.5" to the lands is what i come up with and the 700 box is 3.670" vs 3.380" for the winny.

The STW was at 3.880" or so, actually .210" from being able to reach lands and use as a repeater.

Mine shoot under 1/2" with 3/8" worth of freebore.

Got for it buddy. I would say it is well worth the effort. My STW shoots them into .5 MOA and I'm jumping them quite a ways as well.

I'm jumping the 150 ABLR in my 280 AI as well.

The ABLR's seem to like some jump. The 7mm 150 gr ABLR shoots great in my 280 AI at 3100 fps.
I have the 168 gr ABLR loaded up and ready to go once the snow melts. I am thinking I will be around 2950 fps
making it rather impressive down range.
I am planning on trying them out on some crop damage deer this summer.

Need to find some dies for the STW in the meantime

Jorey,

I'm guessing you should get 3200 fps with the 7 STW and the 168 gr ABLR.
It will be a long range hammer.

I can't say about the 168, LRAB's I shot some before my injury and the testing was inconclusive. I bought 200 more to make sure. I have a couple of dozen loaded up and ready to test, but can't get out of the house. Mine will also start around .20 off of the lands.

Well I wont be trying them in the STW just yet but I did get a batch put together for the 7 RM.

Rifle is a winchester model 70 classic sporter w/26" bbl. Trigger, bedded and crown work. Leupold vari x III 6.5-20x40 for optics.

I put 3 loads together with 3 different powders. Neck sized winchester cases, CCI 250 mag primers, OAL of 3.380" which is longest I can go in the model 70. I am .120" off the lands.
RL22 @ 63,64, and 65 grains
H1000 @ 67,68, and 69 grains
Retumbo @ 68,69, and 70 grains.

Hoping something here will shoot 2950-3000fps with at least 3/4 MOA after little fine tuning.

Will shoot them later this afternoon and report back.

68g retumbo shot .4" all 3 touching horizontally, 2812 2807 2807 fps

didnt seem to like rl22 much

h1000 showed promise sround 68-69 as well but groups were still around 1- 1 1/4 MOA

doesn't look like ill be able to reach my velocity goal but itll have to do.

shot one into jugs at 25 yards and was found in 5th jug and weighed 87g.

I think you have room for more powder Jorey. 2800 is really loafing along with them in a 7mm Rem Mag. I believe you'll easily work up to your 2950-3000FPS range. You may have to tweak seating depth, but I am betting you can run them up a bit faster without any drama.

I'm with Scotty, stuff that case with some more Retumbo and see what happens. I'm assuming that @ 2800 fps you were not getting any pressure with that load?

Looks like a great start. You might have to keep that gun after all

I am right at 3075 with the 7mm WSM and RL25. I have 0 reasons to believe I am pushing it. Easy extraction, no enlarged primer pockets and cases are holding up well. Anything over or near 3000 should be excellent for that bullet.

I agree with Scotty,I have 165 gr .30-06 loads doing 2800 and accurate.

Yah trust me not all that excited about the velocity...

However I seem to have trouble getting 3000 and good accuracy from 160 class bullets in most my 7 mags ive had over the years.

No doubt I can get 2900-2950 but that seems to always be about it.

I have 7828 and rl25 as well but if retumbo at 68g only doing 2800 I dont see getting much over 2900 with around 71-72g.

Would love it if they did shoot for me at 3K but sadly with this rifle looks like 2800-2850 is the sweet spot with the preliminary testing anyway.

For long range game accuracy and consistency is key so it is what it is.

1/2 MOA @ 2800fps and single digit ES will get er done to 1k still, all I really ask right now.
