starline brass thoughts

I agree, Scotty. If I can't get what I want with a Lapua headstamp, I'll go Starline if they have it. Nosler is okay most often but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze. I don't believe Hornady is any better than Winchester, Remington, or Federal. Well...maybe it's better than Federal. LOL.

About anything is better than Federal these days it seems.

1 not so good experience with starline brass

Starline once fired brass (notice the bulge), starline once fired and resized (bulge has sized into a belt), Hornady 3X fired and reloaded.

AS far a nickel, no thank you. you have soft brass coated inside and out with hard nickel plating. And it will start to flake after a couple loadings. That platting is hard enough too scratch your dies and your chamber. had that happen with win. premium 25 wssm brass once.

I really like Peterson, Lapua is what I used for years. I have some guns with nosler or adg too.

If those aren't available I have bought Starline but didn't keep it (gave it to my cousin). I seen noticeable differences in my speed and POI when using my load developed with ADG at the time. I know that comes with different brass and I'm not saying it as a negative, I just wasn't willing to switch my load up to toss Starline in with reloadable brass. Only went two firings so I can't speak yay or nay on it for the long run.

I love Starline in straight walled cartridges. I use it in 357, 44 Mag, 454 & 45-70. I've been interested in trying it for my 270 or 30-06. Like some others have mentioned, my go to for bottle necked rounds is Lapua. I'll be trying out some ADG for my 7mm PRC and Norma seems to be doing very well in my 257 Weatherby.

I've all but written off nickel plated stuff. Makes a mess when you size it.

It may be worth your time trying Peterson out. Comes annealed and has been great for me. It’s my go to brass now.

I've heard good things about Peterson as well, I just haven't used any yet. All new brass goes through annealing, some just do a chemical wash to get rid of the discoloration.

I was about to ask if anybody ever used Peterson brass not many places have it.
I buy mine from Eurooptics or Midway.. at times precision reloading will have deals and I'll buy from them too.

What I like best about it, is how consist it has been after a number of reloads. I have a lot for the 7mm-08 that has been reloaded 13 times and hasn't needed annealed. Neck tension is fine and the loads are staying consistent. Bad news for my Burstfire, great news for my time haha.
