I figured this pistol deserved a post of its own. I happened on the stealth arms website after getting into a YouTube hole watching 2011 videos. Everything online has been very favorable and kept talking about the gun builder feature on the stealth arms website.
Stealth Arms
This lead to several hours designing platypus pistols in various configuration’s and color schemes. It is a really fun program that allows you to basically try out any conceivable paint job Andy several slide/frame options. This is the options I came up with. Along with a price tag of $2200.

The website alone hadn’t convinced me to bust out my debit card but it was a fun experience. Oddly as often seems to happen there came a commander length platypus on one of the local classifieds I monitor daily. This led to a quick trade that left me needing a new optic for my Seekins 7prc but having a very I interesting pistol.

Initial impressions were that this was a very nice pistol. Fit/finish was great, it had a tight smooth slide to frame fit. The trigger was excellent. The slides are cut optic specific with a rear sight plate. The plate attaches from the back leaving no visible screws when rear sight is mounted.
The lack of an adapter plate allows the red dot to sit lower on the slide than most optic setups. They also have an excellent backup sight that sits quite high in the window.

I’ve shot this twice now in steel shoots. I’ve got 700 rounds thru the gun. Zero malfunctions, a real pleasure to shoot. It’s lighter weight makes it a little snappier than my compd prodigy but it’s still very fast shooting.
I like it so much I’m likely going to put in that order for the gaudy green 5” that I designed. I think that a 5” platypus combined with a plague port by skips guns would be about perfect.

If anyone’s in the market for a unique double stack 1911 and don’t want to spend 50-80 dollars a piece for 2011 mags this is definitely worth a closer look. I see even staccato is coming out with a Glock magazine compatible 2011 now.
