Stuck Case removal?

Well got the new to me Winchester model 70 in 300 wm. Stupidly used the reloads I got with it and they were just a wee too hot and I got case head seperation and of course the rest of the case is stuck in the chamber. The closest gunsmith is 45 min away and wants $45 to $60 to do it.

Anyone have another solution?

I found a broken shell extractor on Brownells by C.J. Weapons Inc. Anyone used one before?

You just insert the broken shell extractor into the cartridge and close the bolt on it and then open again. The case should come out with the extractor.

My buddies 30'06 did a CHS and we got it out with a 30 cal brush pushed in from the muzzle end.
worth a try, be careful of the crown.

You could push the cleaning rod through the case and screw a brush into it that will stick inside of the case.

Don't you hate handloading those belted cases?

It is not the belted case but the previous loader of the cases. Sloppy or unknowing loaders can cause seperations in non-belted cases.Rick.

Well tried the brush and it was a no go. So I guess I'm ordering the case removal tool.

I wonder if you ran some Kroil down the bore and let it set for a couple hours and then tried another brush. I am also wondering if a 8mm/338 cal brush might work?

So I'm thinking is there something I can get at the hardware store that I could freeze the case with? Like a spray or something. I'm thinking I could freeze the case long before the barrel and maybe be able to shrink it and slide it out.

Compressed air hold it upside down and spray after you heat the outside of your barrel with a hair dryer.

Well there you go. I bought some the other day but it was not getting cold. Never thought holding it upside down.

You may be onto something...

cold compressed air
kroil will seep between the chamber and the contracted case
larger 8mm/338 cal brush to push out the case

Well I was brainstorming with my hunting partner and he came up with the idea of dry ice if I can get it into the case. So I'm going to try that today and see what happens.

Well I got the case out today. Went and spent .65 cents on dry ice. Went home and heated up the outside of the barrel with my wifes hairdrier. I then broke up the dry ice and put a oversized borebrush with a patch on it and ran it up to the throat of the rifle. After a quick prayer, I then packed the dry ice in with a wooden dowle and waited less than a minute and slowly pushed the rod through and out came the brone part of the caseing. Wow. I can't say how thrilled I'm am that it came out and I don't have to spend anymore money.
