...or these pics pretty much define my second season cow/ calf tag. Opening morning saw some elk coming down a draw, got ahead of 'em & set up, they came out walking 50yds. from me, all 4 of 'em had spikes...

...private land...

...4 cows on private...

...more elk on private...

...not elk...

...yesterday was the last day, saw elk @ daylight in a snowstorm, circled up & around 'em, came out & had a perfect standing broadside shot @ just over 100yds., more spikes...

Great photos!

Any of the season left? Any chance of getting on that private property for the cow elk tag?

Or... Do you like beef & chicken?

I've eaten a lot of tag soup over the years... It's not all that bad.

Awesome pix. I love hunting country like that, and miss the views and sheer number of animals you have the opportunity to see compared to hunting in dense timber.

Thanks for sharing Gene, great pictures... I can add my Montana tags to the soup recipe..  Did my PM come through? Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year.. Rol

...all is not lost, I got a pretty nice mule deer & a huge cow, just didn't get an opportunity to fill the second tag, cows never left a 1/2mi. of private...

...so do the woofs, they know if they cross the fenceline, they're "fair game" so it's kind of a Mexican Standoff...

Gene, I think that most of us have had to make tag soup at one time or another :(! I guess that is all part of this sport we call hunting.
Thank you for the post and the beautiful photographs!!

Blessings,
Dan

...well, I ain't gonna starve, had my first cow hung up next to two others & she was about 25% bigger than both of those, pretty good size for a cow...

Yup, I believe that'll do, Gene. Looking good; and she'll look better packaged and frozen awaiting the grill.
