I am wanting to use Talley one piece aluminum mounts on my new M70 Extreme Weather 7mm WSM when i mount the scope, i am leaning towards getting this scope (http://swfa.com/Zeiss-45-14x50-Conquest ... P2937.aspx) would i be able to go with the low mounts(http://swfa.com/Talley-Lightweight-Alum ... P2838.aspx) or would i need to go with the med mounts(http://swfa.com/Talley-Lightweight-Alum ... P2839.aspx) i am not quite sure because of the 90 degree bolt lift on the Winchester if the low mounts would let the bolt clear the ocular of the Zeiss. Thanks: Mick

I haven't mounted up any scopes on new Winchesters with Talley mounts, but I'd be willing to bet there is just no way a 50mm objective bell is going to clear with low mounts. It may not even clear with medium mounts. The best thing to do is get some play-dough or clay, and make two pillars of the same height, about 1" tall. Then set them on the receiver, and use the scope to "squish" them down until you have the scope where you want it, nice and level. Then measure the height of the pillars. Buy the corresponding mount to that height (or the next higher mount, as lower won't work, obviously).

The Talleys are great mounts, and I've considered swapping all my rifles out to them. I suspect you'll need the high mounts, but you may be able to get the mediums to work. You are smart to be concerned with the ocular clearance, as well, as the Conquest has a very large ocular bell.

Mediums will be tight; the bolt may polish the eyepiece. Likely, you will need high mounts.

Yeah, I am pretty sure you'll need high's with that 50mm buddy. I tried Talley Medium's once upon a time with a 50mm Leupold and it still touched.

I have Talley QD's on my 338 Win Mag. Great mounts and I have plenty of objective clearance for a bigger scope, but I am going to run into issues if I go a Swaro with a bigger eyepiece which I will be in the future.

I have a vx7 in Talley's on my 300wsm EW. I think, but I'm not sur off hand, that they are lows. That scope has a 45mm objective. It fits, but I don't think a 50mm would.

Accept my apologies for coming in a little late to this party, but here's some pics of my m70 7WSM Frankenstein (started off as the Shadow thing with the black pimple laden stock and swapped it out for a featherweight). The scope is a Minox ZA3 3-9x 40 sitting in a set of medium Talley lightweight one piece mounts. I don't know how much help this will be for determining your bolt throw clearance, but I think it might give you an idea of what you'll be dealing with for objective clearance. I think highs may be in order for a 50. Also, shoot Talley an email. They've helped me out before.

Love those Winchesters, especially when they are nestled in a Featherweight stock.
