The new IN legal deer rifle

Got a great deal on a GAP Non-typical in .308 Win. SS 3-9x42 in seekins rings and now to load up some ammo!!! Thinking some white tails will hit the dirt this November!

The regulations in IN never made much sense to me, other than the fact that politicians played with words. It made no sense to me that deer could be taken with a rifle that shot either .243 caliber or .308 caliber, but nothing other than that. I suppose that is an improvement over what prevailed a couple of years ago when cartridge length was the determinate. What are the current regulations?

Nice looking rig.
I wish MI would do away with the 1.800" Max length straight walled cartridge in Zone 3 ( southern MI).
I would love to use my Marlin 1895G 45-70.

Current regs allow for a rifle firing a bullet of .243 or .308 on private land. Can use a 30-30 or a .300 Weatherby! If public land hunting, still need to abide by the 1.800" case length and minimum .358 bullet diameter. So I kept my 358 Hoosier just in case.

Same political crap in Ohio. You can use a 50/110 straight wall to blow a hole that will take down any elephant, mastodon, or T-Rex that ever walked the face of the earth.....but God Forbid anyone use a 30/30, 250 savage, or a 35 Rem !

Heating that IN may just amend it yet this year to allow anything between a .243 and .308 bullet. Which would make my 6.5 and 7mm rifles very happy!!

A friend of mine in IN trimmed some 45-70 brass to the proper length to use in his 95 Marlin. He had his own web site which he shut down due to poor health so I never did learn how the experiment worked out. Might be something you'd want to look at.
