I decided that if I am going to work with the 358Win when it gets here a week from today as I have been told. I thought I would also work with my 300Wby Mark V Custom (Thor's Hammer) that I did not hunt with this year and try the 150gr E-Tip. It is a German Mark V receiver with a #2 26" Shilen barrel with a Banzer brake, bedded in a McMillan Stock with a tuned trigger and Blue printed action.

I will try IMR4350, IMR7828, RL-25 and RL-22

I would think you should be able to get 3200+ fps with the 150 gr E-Tip.
Hammer time!

JD338

JD338, I hope to get 3350-3450fps and if I can which I think I can with ease and no pressure problems, I could really reach out with the BC of the 150gr E-Tip. You talk about a gas-line rifle and round. 400yds will be it's point blank if I can get 3400fps. Should, I have reached over 3500fps with a 150gr bullet before with this rifle. What ever happens it will be an education for sure.

JD338, I have decided to only use the Sierra 165gr HPBT at 2950fps with my 06 and not the GS HV. If the E-Tip performs at all under and inch I will use it in my 300Wby for my long shots and terrain that demands a rifle and cartridge that can Reach out and Touch Them. 8) In fact I would rather reach out to 400yds with a 150gr bullet than a 100gr bullet at 425yds. Yes, I like a 300Wby better than I like a 257Wby. Did I say that????? Don't shoot me GB300wm!!!!!!!

OK QL is not yet updated with the newer E-tips but I have found that you can get pretty close with the regular Barnes X....... not TSX!

RL25 rox!

POP, I got some RL-25 and also some MRP and RL-22. So I will start with RL-25, MRP and IMR7828 and RL-22, becaue I want the velocity as well as accuracy.

Man, If I can get there with the E-Tip and that plastic tip opening up that thing with the energy and momentum of that 150gr bullet that would really be a devastating killer. I will have the following energy:

Energy:
Muzzle 3849
100yds 3327
200yds 2868
300yds 2463
400yds 2106

POP, there is not that much difference in velocity about 50-60fps. I will try the E-Tips first because they are cheaper and easier to get a hold of and only if they fail to give me good accuracy would I even try the 150gr GS. The E-Tip will have better down range performance than the GS because the BC of the GS 150gr is not as good as the E-Tip. We will see.

Per Nosler #6 for a 150gn and 300WBY using ET loading directions:
(listed fastest fps to slowest)
Powder Start Max
IMR4350 76* 78
IMR7828 85 87^
IMR4831 77* 79
RL-19 77* 79
H4831** 81* 83

* Most accurate load
** Most accurate powder
^ Compressed load

Good luck

JD338, I have decided to only use the Sierra 165gr HPBT at 2950fps with my 06 and not the GS HV. If the E-Tip performs at all under and inch I will use it in my 300Wby for my long shots and terrain that demands a rifle and cartridge that can Reach out and Touch Them. 8) In fact I would rather reach out to 400yds with a 150gr bullet than a 100gr bullet at 425yds. Yes, I like a 300Wby better than I like a 257Wby. Did I say that????? Don't shoot me GB300wm!!!!!!!

Don't worry bullet. I won't shoot except to get that 300 wby from you. That happens to be my favorite also. It's a hammer in the literal sense.

Post your results. I am really curious.........

No problem, I have already prepared and primed the brass (Weahterby and Fed 215 primer) Brass same length, primer pockets squared, and will be setting the over all length a little short of where I would seat the TSX. Also, the weather will be just right for Thrusday morning and Lord willing I will be there.

If anyone has advice that would seem to make more since concerning my seating depth mentioned above let me know, I will not seat bullets until about 9:00pm Central time.

I thought you would get a kick out of that one.

What ever happens it will be an education for sure.

bullet,

this is my SWAG, I don't have a good feel on the E-Tip yet. If you had said PT or AB, I would have been thinking 3400+/- 50 fps right along with you.

JD338, I don't think any of use really have a good feel for the E-Tip yet and won't until it is tried in a lot of different rifles of the same caliber. I am just hoping the theoretical data is close to right.

Tomorrow morning will begin to give some idea at least in my 300Wby. I actually am looking forward to the experience and hope my feeling of good to excellent results take place. I will admit that in my 30-06 the OAL was very, very touchy and I really never quit found the sweet spot. I think it was me and not my rifle. Also, I gave up to quick because of other loads that were so good. I will try and hang longer with this rifle and the load work.
