Can you guys educate me and my father on the T3? He likes the action a lot and is getting closer to picking out his new retirement rifle. He is thinking a T3 25-06 SS then getting a walnut Boyd's stock to put it in. We are looking for any an all info you have.

The one thing I found online is that some people don't care for the recoil lug.

How difficult is it to bed this action with the recoil lug?

...the Tikka "recoil lug" is more like a mortis/ tenon, w/ a key bedded in the stock & a groove in the receiver. I've shot a number of T3's, & it appears to me the system works fine. If you got a decent gunshop you might consider this option...

...I've got a shop in town here that will look for what you want, when he finds one he calls you & quotes a price (which is 15% above his cost) & asks if you want to order it. The Hunters I've seen haven't been fancy, but there nice. If your dad is looking @ heirloom quality he might be more interested in a Sako (T3's a basically "plain Jane Sakos)...

I have called a few shops about the Hunter SS and from what I understand, Tikka does not ship them to the US. That is why he is going to order a different stock. I maybe wrong and if I am I hope someone can help me find a Hunter SS for my dad.

If you can't find exactly what you want these guys look to have a lot of aftermarket Tikka stuff including stocks.

Thank you Gerry.

I saved the link in case I end up with a Tikka and I just might for a varmint rifle. They seem to have some left handed versions that are favorable. As much as I like the model 70 it appears to be a thing of the past unless I come up with a used one.

The prices I've seen on used left handed model 70's have precluded me from buying any so far. The one I recently found in .338 WM was priced very fair. I'm accustomed to seeing a $1,000 price tag on them, used left hand model 70, but the one I found was $650. Needless to say I snagged it up right quick with no debate.

I'm beginning to feel like a red headed step-child in the rifle world. :( It's a good thing some folks like redheads.

+1 to what wildgene said.

I have/have had well over a dozen of the T3's including two Varmints and two Big Boars. All of them have been shooters with the exception of a 338 Federal that would have made Dr Mike curse like a sailor. For a short time I had a laminated stock stainless 25-06 that my wife thought she wanted and it was a half inch or better gun all day long.

I know the merits of the T3's have been debated on this forum as well as others and it comes down to a matter of personal taste. For the most part, however, I haven't seen many posts anywhere that pertained to them being inaccurate. Prior to the advent of the Marlin X-7 series I thought the T3's were the best value for the money on the market.

Just my .02.

Have a Boyds Stock which I like and for me they are almost a home town company. They will get my business again If I can. However, I did a quick search and I did not see a walnut stock for a T3. Double check tht they have what you want before you make a decision. CL

 That sounds like a bad 'un!

Bought brand new off Gunbroker, tried virtually every bullet/powder/factory ammo combination I could find. BEST group at 100 was 3 inches and usually bigger than that. Yet, at 50 it would shoot thumbnail sized groups.

Checked every screw on it, changed scopes, changed shooters, changed rests, changed OAL's, etc. E-mailed Beretta, they suggested I try one of their service centers; service centers suggested I contact Beretta directly since they had no way to diagnose the problem.

End result was it went over the hill after I surrendered. I did, however, develop new curse word combinations that I didn't know I had in me. Had I known then what I know now, I would have explored the possibility of rechambering/rebarreling to a .35 Whelen, but I hadn't experienced the utopia that cartridge offers.

On the other hand, EVERY other T3 I've had shot well immediately with anything that would fit in the chamber, regardless of caliber.

Maybe look into a laminate stainless T3. They are a great looking rifle, if looking for a wood stock.

Either way, it will be a great shooter!!

Well, dad just called and said the rifle is ordered and will be here in a few days. Now time to hunt for a scope, and some brass. I hope to find some 110 ABs soon from SPS. I am going to push for a 4-12 Leupold VX-II.

That's a good scope choice.
Congrats to Pops!
