My 7mm-300 Weatherby outdoes the 7mm Practical and so does a 7 mm STW ! JMO RJ

Believe it or not neither out does the 7-300wm by much if at all if your running them magazine length. If your seating bullets where they belong then they will most definitely out run a 7-300wm but that means a overall length in the 3.9 to 4.0" range with heavy VLD type bullets. I have a couple 7STW's and 3 7-300wm's. Lately I've been leaning towards the 7-300wm because they easily run through a standard mag box and still touch the rifling with the bullets seated how they should be. For a STW to do the same you'd need to run the bullets .230" deeper into the case negating most of the added capacity you gain going to the larger case.

Was a consideration as well, however like ya say, theres definately some cons to having the baddest 7mm around!
you made a good choice, personaly would have went stw to save on fireforming but that's just me
RR

Dont believe I have to fireform. Shoulder is not changing any.

stw is to long and burns just touch more powder then I was wanting to.

All in all, splitting hairs either way.

I think your ultimate coyote rifle just turned into a deer and elk rifle too.

Wyatt mag box and the problem is sloved  RJ

But i do like the 7mm Practical and i will build one when the barrel of the 7mm 300 Bee is shot out ! :)

Cheers :) RJ

As much as I hate to fireform brass I almost wish I had improved versions with 35 degree shoulders and a little less taper. I hate trimming brass also and I think the more case stretching that goes on the higher the chance of separation ahead of the belt with multiple firings. A bonus is the additional capacity would allow me to run standard 7-300wm velocities in RWS brass or in normal brass it would gain 50fps or so and put you right with a STW seated long (well you might give up 50fps still but pretty dang close).

BTW Wyatt mag boxes weren't around back when I spent most of my time shooting STW's. Retumbo wasn't even a glimmer in Hodgdon's eye when I built my first one and H-1000 hadn't been out very long. H-1000 and H-5010 were the stick powders of choice with heavy bullets. I shot them single shot most of the time or one round in the magazine ramp and one in the chamber.

I've known about the practical for a long time. He didn't really improve it enough to see a gain. The gain is slowing down case stretch. I'd want a little gain to go through custom dies and another reamer personally.

You know what - all i said was the 7mm-300 Win mag or 7MM Practical is NOT as good a performer ( velocity ) as a 7MM-300 Weatherby or a 7 MM STW and they are NOT ! Rem only makes 1 long action and with a Wyatt mag box conversion the KING of 7mm 's are the ABOVE and you can add the 7MM RUM too ! Period ! Don't care how much powder or whatever is used ! Just like the 30 cals - the 30-378 WBee is the KING of the 30 's and thats the bottom line !  by the way its just MHO !

Cheers :) RJ

I was not looking for utmost speed in 7mm as Ive had the rem mag the stw and the rum.

wanted something efficient, different and easy was all!!

But yes, in my mind this will be pretty dang close to my ideal rifle for just about everything and how and where I hunt.

KOOL! Cheers  RJ

The 7mm Dakota had some serious interest as well.

I've always like there cartridges, fairly efficient design, but I have a hard time spending $2+ per case.

wow, I thought this was over and done with approx 10 days ago. For what possible reason is it necessary to bring this dormant disagreement back to life. Everybody else has been talking about a variety of 7mm calibers for approx 10 days, without any disagreement I might add.

Pass issued, my apologies

I listed two here unnamed, individuals, 10 days ago, on my foe list. I guess that they did not believe me or something. I posted notice that I had put these two individuals on my "Foe" list and do not even see their posts anymore? Oh well, not my problem, carry on!
