Looks like our Virginia elk are doing ok. Apparently they like road salt. This is close to the Va-Ky line about 75 miles from my house.

Right now the lottery only allows about 10 tags. Maybe my great great grandkids will be able to hunt them. But it’s something special to see around here.

Surprising to see them grazing so close to the road. It is definitely an indication that they are not harassed or hunted.

About 20 miles, as the crow flies, there is another group that's quite a bit bigger.

WVDNR says the herd is increasing but small. Hopefully my son and or grandkids might get the opportunity to hunt them someday. There was an article on the West Virginia Metro News website back in the fall. Dan.

MI also has a herd of elk about 2 hours north of me. There is a lottery draw every season and about 275-300 elk are taken annually.
