Upcoming Whelen

Unfortunately, that's a no-no place for me. If you live in certain states in the south they won't do business with you for some reason...tried them before.

I can only hope that intermittent reports of various ReLoder powders being discovered means that it will shortly be seen again, if only in limited quantities.

That Mauser is a sweetheart, some of the nicest wood for that model I've seen. I can't wait to try it out next week. I've already got twenty rounds ready to go. The scope is a good one and looks good to boot. Once I get her bore sighted it generally doesn't take me but two shots to sight it in. I'm looking for sub MOA groups from this baby.

This is the one I bought today. They already show it as sold.

VERY nice! Great score buddy! Love seeing guys get into the Whelen. Hope your able to plunk a good bullet at one of your deer. Usually just after you press the trigger you see why we love the Whelen so much... Although, if you have a follow a short, heavy blood trail few yards it might take a minute or two more. Love the 35 Whelen.

The guys have steered you straight, RL15, 4064, 4320 and a few others are really good in the Whelen. 4064 was dynamite with the 200 grain Hornady's.

These are the two cast bullets I'm having Tom at Accurate Moulds make for me. I think they'll be goo ones. I also ordered Nosler's 225 and 250 gr PT along with Hornady's 200 gr Spire Point...just to get things started.

If this one doesn't arrive until late next week it may be a couple weeks before I get to shoot it. With the pending operation the 15th I may be out of commission for awhile.

Great looking rifle, had one just like it now it belongs to Rodger. As Scotty listed all the great powders. Also if you have Imr 8208xbr available it gave me great loads with the 200 gr Hornady.. Excellent velocity and acuracy.Lee

Nice find on the Classic that is a very desirable gun in my opinion. I'm with Lee as well in recommending IMR 8208 along with the powders Scotty mentioned, it works great with 200's and still works well with 225's.

I use the Hornady headspace guage on all calibers I have to check shoulder set back but I'm not sure if the ones I have will fit the Whelen or not. I checked the Bushing Size chart on back of the package and don't see it listed although there are five of them in this kit. It list 30-06 and smaller and up to the 375 but doesn't show for the 35 Whelen. I checked Midway, where I bought the kit and it says they will fit "bottleneck cases from 17 caliber through large belted magnums". I guess I have to assume one of them will work.

Here is my 700 Classic 35 Whelen topped of with a Leupold VX III 2.5-8x36mm scope.
RL 15, IMR 4064 and AA2015BR have all been top performing powders with 200, 225 and 250 gr bullets.

Both classics look great... Rodger yours looks awful familiar, have you had a chance to shoot it yet

Lee , Unfortunately I haven't. I've got a bunch of ammo loaded up and ready to go. It seems since I went back to work I don't have time for my self since I'm doing everything else. Right now getting the travel trailer and truck ready for a 2 week vacation with the wife. We are going to Buffalo NY so she can play in the World Horse Shoe pitching tournament and visit Niagara NY and Canada.

There is a reason they are called "Classic." A pretty rifle is nice; but a rifle that shoots well is lovely.

I'll soon have one of those the latter part of next week, hopefully. All the necessary accessories are in house now, dies, brass, bullets, etc. just waiting for it's arrival.

JD338-What mounts are those? I put the Leupold 2-piece DD mounts on my M7- 7x57 and had that scope been 1/8 " shorter in the tube those mounts wouldn't have worked.

That is BEAUTIFUL! Way to go right there. I love the mounts and the scope. What a perfect package!

Can't wait to see how it works for you. I am planning to take my son's 7x57 out tomorrow and check speeds, so I will get a little range time with the little 7.

I'm chompin' at the bits to try her out-especially before my operation week after next. I may be laid up a while so need to do it this upcoming week...give me something to dream on while I'm in the hospital.

I wished I could send you mine to shoot. Just to get the itch. Your going to love it.

I've read much about the old 7x57 and it seems first from one of the eight JOC books I acquired over the years, mostly the late 60's. If Jack liked it, it can't be that bad. :) I've got some old and new 140 Partition bullets already loaded along with the Hornady 139 and 154 gr. I'd say one of those ought to shoot pretty dang good.

I'm awful anxious to get that Whelen home as well. Lots of presents for myself here lately. Bad timing for an operation.

Well, make sure you heal fast buddy and make sure you take tons of pictures. Those are going to be a lot of fun!
