At a recent gun-show, I looked at a NIB SS Vangard rifle that did not have the typical Weatherby high-comb plastic stock on it. It was more like a Classic style stock. Does Weatherby offer these rifles with a choice of stock design, or was this offered for only a short time in years past? The owner did not know. It was in a non-magnum caliber.

Since posting this, I visited their site and they show only a "high-comb" plastic stock on the new Vangards.

I have seen both versions.
Call WBY custom shop.

I have a wby vanguard stock on my 7mm rem mag Howa. 8)

It is highly possible that you were looking at a new gun that was old stock someone had available. Weatherby started putting the "Weatherby design" stock on the Vanguard only a few years ago (maybe three or four, I seem to recall). It would be easy for a small dealer to have one NIB from five or six years ago, or even a large dealer who doesn't have good inventory management. Heck, I found a shop today that has several Colt Light Rifles NIB. In fact, some of them have literally never been out of the box except to be checked in. I wish I had the coin onhand right now, as I'd love one in 270Win.

POP, et al,

thanks for the input. The pics surely show the 2 stock styles I spoke of.

Thanks to all,

This is exactly what my 7mm Mag Howa looks like.

Before that it had a wood stock that looked like the other one above.
