Varmint ammo... Anyone loading?

Thank you sir! I'm thinking about a .223 AI... maybe rechambering one of my current .223s, maybe finding a donor for a new barrel, and I think if I do I will run LC brass in it.

I think that's a good idea...I am pretty sure they anneal the necks and shoulders of LC brass after forming, not sure about other manufacturers. I also like the fact that you don't have to deal with primer crimps with virgin LC brass.

Just in case it matters: I knew there was another source for virgin LC 5.56 brass that I was not able to recall...it is Widener's. I think that's where I got mine about a year ago. So there are three sources I know of:
1 Widener's,
2 Natchez, and
3 Berry's.

I've got 50 rounds for my 22-250 loaded with 55gr Sierra HPBT gamekings for coyote hunting around here. That will last me at least a year unless I shoot them up at the range. I'm going to spend some time this year trying to work a load up with a 55gr blitzing.

Oh yeah... hit shootersproshop and scored a mess of 55 gr SPs & NBTs for my AR along w/ that new copper-inhibiting powder of Hodgdon's. Haven't bloodied that rifle yet so I am really hoping to catch some horny yoddle dogs running around in the next few weeks! 'Tis the season!

Putting together a bunch of what I call my "magic load" in my 6mm-250 which utilizes Hornady's 75 gr HP & RL-15. Using that same bullet in my boys' .243, and my 6mm Rem that I'm hoping to have up and shooting mid-summer, although in these rifles I'm going to have to try the 87 gr VMax which has a fantastic BC for "reach out and touch some pig" accuracy!

Good old 75 gr VMax is da bomb through the .257 AI w/ H380 at 3600 fps!!!!!!!!!!

Chucks shudder at the sound of my name  !!!!!!

All manufacturers anneal their cases after forming, LC just doesn't polish the cases afterward so the retain the anneal stain. They are a military contactor & its cheaper not to polish the cases, the military doesn't care as long as its cheap.

I just discovered 1500 69 grain bullets for my .223 today, so I'm gonna have some work. I already have 600 cartridges loaded up for the .204. I'm running low on those bullets though, only 750 BTs left, I'm gonna have to stock up! I did pick up a case of Federal .22LR for $160 the other day, so that should keep me busy through gopher season.

...just found another couple bags of .25 WSSM cases in Cd'A, too bad the QuarterBores are so near perfect there's never any "blemished" .25's on SPS...

...250 rounds loaded w/ 75gr. SHP/V-Max, 85gr BT, 87gr. TNT, & 90gr. SBK

...got 350 loaded .223 rounds in 40/55gr. BT/V-Max, 50/55gr. TNT, 55gr. SBK, 200 more cases to load...

Well You got me all excited with this post Guy. I had to go and prep a few hundred rounds of 223 today, and I don't even own one anymore  Guess I'm just getting ready for a moment of weakness when a good deal on an AR comes around.

wildgene, that is really annoying that they don't have any .257" bullets on SPS! I look everyday.

I sized, trimmed, and primed up several hundred .22 Hornet, .25/06, 6.5x55, 6.5 Creedmoor, & .257 Roberts today. I think it was pretty productive. I only managed to load up 100 Creedmoors before I got tired of reloading.

Well, I woke up about 0400 again, and went out to the garage, fired up some George Jones on the iPod, and sized all my empty .243, 6mm, and 100 .300 WSM cases. I was going to get my empty Swift brass sized as well, but sometime in my last three moves, I've lost my #11 RCBS shellholder. I would have thought it was in the same Plano tackle box as all my other shellholders, but not so.

I need to get my case trimmer situation sorted out. I was given a Forster case trimmer when my parent's neighbor died, I have my old RCBS case trimmer that's about half converted to TrimPro status (and I don't think I'm gonna like the new shellholder arrangement), and what I think I really need to do is get a power trimmer... doing batches of 450 Swifts, 700 .223s, or 300 6mms at a time is hard on the hands.

Been working on the AR with 50gr BTs and 55gr BTs. Looks like it will be 50gr BTs using Benchmark. Loaded more 70gr BTs for the 243AI using Varget and man does that rifle love that load.

All work and no play makes me a dull boy!! Been home 2 and a half days in the last month. A day putting in new water heater. Really had no time to load anything or shoot. Need to play with the 243 and 70BT some more the 308 and 168CC the 257 and 85BT haven't touched yet. Then in a few days will have the 280AI in my hands to play after I order a scope which might be another month, with barrel break-in with 140BT then load development with 140 and 160AB. I guess on the bright side I got 150-280/140BT loaded and 300 223 loaded with 55 FMJ a box of 55 Vmax and the rest 55BT. And make decisions on a stock for the 338 and finish and scope.

Sounds like a good excuse to get a COAX and forget about them danged shellholders all together!

I might have to give it a try. I happen to have a box of 70 BT's around!

Scotty, I can justify with the best of them, but buying a $300 press so I don't have to buy another $8 shellholder might be pushing things, even by my standards! (Besides, I'm running out of room, and I still have a Dillon 550, and RCBS Ammomaster Progressive, and three MEC 600 Jr. Mk. Vs to find room for!)
