Well my smith says unless there's some pretty serious pitting more than 2" down the bore from the muzzle (and there isn't), we can take the length off needed, do a recessed crown at -11 degrees and lap it out. It should shoot really nice and since it is a light contour barrel we are going to have it cryoed. He recommends it with light contour barrels and it will be free floated. Looking for a Burris Signature 1.5-6x40mm (Burris has discontinued the signature line but I love this scope, had one on my 35 Whelen and it was tough and you talk about clear good glass) so I am looking for one used or one that was not sold. That MTAC is to short and will not look good on my Remington 700 long action. Keep you eye out for the Burris. Doing the above instead of putting on a new barrel and also using Hogue stock I will save a ton of money. :)

To much for the beat up condition it is in, wouldn't give but 175.00 at most for one that looks like that, especially since it is a discontinued line.

Thought about it and even though I take some close shots most of mine end up being across fields, down gas and power lines and across canyon shots as well as closer ones. I have decided to go with a Redfield 4-12x40mm as a compromise in price and power to handle my all around use of the Big 8. I love the Accutrack, had it on an old redfield years ago and I have tried my friends new Redfield with one and I really like it. If I can make a 12yd shot in thickets on a hog racing at me in 1985 with a 6 power fixed scope I can use the 4 power for my close work and the 12 power and powers in between will serve for my longer shots that I will take with that 220gr Sierra SBT. Anyway, the Redfield is on the way, I caught it on sale for 249.00 and could not pass that up. :)
