I put some warne rings on my Sako 85 and used the warne torque wrench on the bases and rings. I have noticed my groups haven't been that great and suspected the scope mount. I took a screwdriver with the star point and checked the tightness of the ring screws. They seemed really loose to me. Could recoil from a 30-06 cause them to loosen up? Normally I would just snug them down but didn't want to damage the scope. Maybe they are harder to damage than I think.

I also read somewhere that warne is discontinuing their mounts for 85 due to fit problems?

I took the warne torque driver back it didn't seem that well made or reliable? Has anyone had same or different experiences.

Should I just snug em down hand tight??

Either the torque wrench is inaccurate or you need to tighten it some more. Rings should be torque between 15-17 inch/lb. Don't forget to lap the ring also.

I read somewhere that Warne had discontinued their sako mounts because the 85's receiver rail dimension changed. I called Warne today and they confirmed they do not offer mounts for the 85 anymore. He said some fit fine and others would never lock up right (always affected the rear base). He said it also affected a few late model 75's. Evidently they have tried to get the new specs from beretta/sako and they won't give them to them so they don't offer them anymore because they can't gurantee their reliability.

I guess I need to go for some optilocks or talleys I guess?

If the rings are all right you may want to put a dab of clear nail polish on the screws it will help and if they loosen off again then you may have to go with a Sako system.

The warne are one piece base and rings and were put on with blue locktite and still came loose. I think they have a square dovetail fitting on a sako tapered dovetail. The receiver dovetail has unequal sides getting larger at the front to tighten under recoil whereas most bases are square which will still tighten bu you have less surface area of base in contact with the dovetail.

I talked to my gunsmith he set me up with redfield bases which have the unequal sided dovetail and they slide on the dovetail from the back and drive into place and then low leupold rings to bring that scope down nice and close. The finish on the redfield isn't the prettiest but when you look at how it works it is by far the best system in my opinion.

I would go with the new Sako Optilock Ringmounts. No need for the base / rings setup. If not go with the Optilock rings and bases. But thats me.

I like mine....had almost year now on my Sako m75 Greywolf 338-06 Ackley Improved I had made. All my other Sako m75 and Tikka T3 rifles have the Optilock rings/.bases setup.
