My family had an awesome season as far as deer go. My wife, Dad, and I hunted elk every weekend but just never could find one we could kill. But 6 of the 7 of us killed nice whitetails. The deer got hit hard with EHD around here last summer so numbers were way down. Seems like it took a lot of the mature bucks out. Even during the rut, mature bucks were really hard to find. Lots of little dink fork horns chasing does but not many good bucks. We couldn't find a buck for my wife before the season was over. But she did not want to kill a smaller buck just to kill one. I couldn't have been more proud when she told me that she would rather pass on a little buck and let him get bigger than to kill him just so she could tag one. But anyway am here is some pictures from our season

My little sister Abby started us off during the 2 day youth season. I took her out and shy spotted this buck and another. We made a stalk and got her within about 100 yards. One shot from her Marlin xs7y 7mm-08 and a handloaded 140gr AccuBond did him in. Only ran 30 yards or so.

Next up was my youngest brother Sully. His buddy's dad owns some awesome whitetail property and Sully got permission to hunt. He shot this one at about 400 yards with his 7mm-300wby and a handloaded 160gr AccuBond

A couple weeks ago, I took my younger brother Hayden out for a quick Sunday morning hunt. I picked him up late after sleeping through my alarm. We were running 30 minutes late but as soon as we got to our hunting area, we spotted a deer crossing the stubble field. We parked and made a short stalk and Hayden killed this buck at 300 yards with my Tikka t3 270win with a handloaded 130gr AccuBond. He fell in love with how simple my vx3
CDS scope made the shot.

My buddy Jason has come over from Missoula the last 4 years to hunt with me over Thanksgiving. Sully took us out to the land where he killed his buck last Wednesday morning. The deer come up out of a big coulee with a creek running down it and lots of brush and go out into a CRP field to fees at night. We spotted Jason's buck as it was getting light and got in position for him to take a shot. The buck bolted after a doe but we got him stopped just as he was going in the brush. Jason made a perfect quartering away steep downhill 200 yard shot with his Tikka t3 270win and a federal 150gr nosler Partition. After killing his buck with my tikka last year, he loved it so much he bought one too! Jason's shot went through the stomach, liver, lungs and heart. His buck went 10 feet and fell over.

Jason killed his a few minutes into shooting time so we left his buck there for a bit to see if we could find a buck for me. We drove a mile down to the end of the property and spotted some more deer making their way back to the coulee. One was. Nice buck so I headed after him. He saw me doing through the CRP but never ran. He just turned and walked away and was quickly making it towards the property line fence. He was a long ways out but I felt confident I could make the shot. I ranged him and dialed my CDS cap to 450 yards. Got a good rest and squeezed the trigger. When I recovered from the recoil, he was no where to be seen and I was wondering where he went. He fell right in his tracks! Shot him with my tikka t3 270win and 130gr AccuBond.

Luckily Jason and Sully were with me. I hurt my back somehow whe I fell helping Hayden drag his deer out a few days before. They grabbed his horns and drug him the 600-700 yards back to the truck for me!

I quickly gutted mine and loaded him and we headed back for Jason's buck. Had to take a group picture when the got his back to the truck

Dad was the last it fill his tag. Sully took him Thanksgiving morning out where we killed out bucks the morning before. Sully put him on a good one and Dad shot him a few minutes into legal shooting time as the buck was headed back down the coulee. I got a call at 8:15 and they were already back in town showing him off! Dad killed him at about 150 yards with his Rem 700 stainless sps 300 RUM and a handloaded 180gr AccuBond. The turned out to be Dad's biggest buck ever and he is still talking about it! Pictures don't do this buck justice. Not real long points but he is super wide and incredibly heavy!

We had a blast! Lots of laughs and even more unforgettable memories!

That was a fantastic season; there are some fine looking bucks represented among you. Congratulations all the way around. Abby is getting to be a regular on these pages. You've trained her well.

WOW! Great pictures DT and congrats on the deer buddy! That looks like it was just awesome out there this Fall! Great shooting!

Looks like a super season , you may have to change your user name though. Doesn't sound like there was much tracking involved. Lol

Terrific photos tell the tale of a great hunting season.

Congrats to all!

Everyone of those whitetails is very nice, you certainly did have a great fall. Pretty cool your buddy decided to get a Tikka after using yours last year.
