What Optic

What do you plan to do with the rifle?

Low light hunting is somewhat different from broad light range...

Just a general truck rifle.

Self Defense, coyotes, and plinking will be it’s main duties. Right now I’ve got a red dot on it but I’m planning to move that to my AR Pistol and mount a different, more long range suitable, optic on my 6.5 Grendel AR.

My odds of using it in a self defense scenario
is slim to none. Besides that’s what the home defense shotgun is for.

I use a Millet dot in donut for driven hunts.
Cheap as dirt, but works fine for me.

I've got Trijicon optics on my AR's.
The 22 Nosler is primary for coyotes and has a 2.5-10x50mm and the 300 Blackout is for home defense and has a 2x ACOG.

Maybe I should put a 2.5X Scout Scope on my AR 5.56/.223?

Great question and many good options. If you plan to hit coyote with it a1-4x would be fine for up close. Don’t know if I’d be happy at 200-300 with 4x to bag a coyote… guess I need to try…one AR has a Red dot, the other will get a 1-6x BlackHound.

I use a bunch of the 1x6's and 1x8's on AR's mostly. Bushnell has some good options as well as Trijicon's as well for AR's and good general purpose work.
