What's it worth? Pre 64 M70 Win .280 custom

Man that's a smoking deal! I paid $500 for my Pre-64 action. I definately wouldn't be complaining. Plus it's a 280! It should shoot lights out. Might become your favorite rifle!!

Hopefully, he HATES it. Then he PM's me!

Just kidding with you. I have a hard time thinking that rifle will do anything but make you smile though!

I won't be sending you a PM Scotty, but I won't be shooting this rifle unless my hunting partner's son will let me handle it again in the future. I had been tasked a while back to keep my eye out for a hunting rifle for my buddies son (10 year old), who just got his hunters safety card and will be going on his first deer hunt this year in Oklahoma. My buddy saw the rifle and asked what I had to have for it I told him to pay me what I had in it. It was a little more than he wanted to pay so I sold it for $325 and kept the scope, he had a VX-II 3-9 to put on it anyway.

He is an avid reloader and started his first boy out with a downloaded .284 Win in a Ruger 77 flat bolt, and he has taken a couple of elk and several deer and pronghorn with that rifle. It is going to a good cause so I'm not sad to see it go, besides how many of you guys out here would have loved to have a first hunting rifle like this one? I imagine when I see his boy enjoying that rifle and hopefully taking his first elk with it in a few years, I know I made the right decision to pass this rifle on. I didn't need this rifle nor was I too excited about it being a .280 but I knew that I couldn't leave that rifle sitting in a pawn shop.

I was going to have to add a recoil pad and move the scope forward to get it to fit me anyway. It currently has a 13" LOP and the scopes eye relief was all wrong for me to get a full sight picture. So it should be about perfect for his son in two years when he is able to start hunting big game here in Colorado. My buddy is stopping by after church today to pick it up hopefully he will be bringing his son so I can get a picture of his boy holding the rifle.

Man, you did really well for that young lad! Every kid should have a M70 to hunt with!

I imagine that rifle will bring alot of joy to that young boy. Can't wait to hear how it shoots. I can't help but think it'll be a great shooting rifle. If it isn't, I doubt it'll take much to make it sing.

Gracious move on your part, taylorce1. I commend you for thinking of the lad. It is a worthy endeavour on your part.

Well good for you. Good story always nice to help someone out especially the young that are key to keeping guns in this country. I would've taken it off your hands in a heartbeat though!

Here is a pic of my buddies son straight from his Hockey tournament still wearing his cowboy boots. He has some growing to do, but he was happy to get the rifle. He is already a good shot with his .22 lr and .223 Rem.

Wow! That is just too awesome buddy! You did such a good thing right there! That kid has something in his paws that will bring him many, many years of enjoyment! Can't wait to see some results from the lad on the range!

He has got to grow a bit before the stock will fit properly but with light bullets at 7-08 velocities I think he'll be able to handle it. He has three years to go because of the way his birthday falls before he can hunt big game in CO. His older brother graduates high school this year and has killed quite a bit of game with that old .284 of his, I imagine this boy will do the same.

I know my buddy would do the same for me when it comes time for my daughter who is the same age to find a rifle. Right now she can't tolerate much recoil so I'm thinking .243 for her, problem is she only likes fancy wood stocks. She is going to keep me poor upgrading her rifles.

That is a labor of love! I think my daughter will get a nice little Featherweight Compact if she shows any desire to shoot or to hunt with me. The kids hunting with me is just about the best feeling in the world. Being in on my boys first deer was one of the greatest moments ever. Can't wait to see him smoke a deer with his 7x57!

In the days when I had my children at home, I was really into river fishing. I spent a small fortune on gear for the children. I still have a pretty good selection of rods and reels, to say nothing of new tackle that has never been wet. Now, my grandchildren need new rifles, and I'm only too glad to accommodate their interest.

Doing what Grandpa's do best I take it! ;)

God gave children grandparents so they could spoil them. It builds character .... in the parents of the grandchildren.
