Where are you hunting in 2012

akhunter,

Here's to a successful hunt. Wish I were there to join you on that hunt. For the moment, I'll content myself with looking for a black bear and trust that you'll shortly be posting some great pictures.

I applied for a late spike bull hunt in Oregon yesterday. 99% chance of drawing. Same area as last fall just a little later. I did not draw in AZ.

I wished I could stick around for that one too!

You are always welcome, as you know. !!!

Yes sir! I know Bill. The wife might be on my case after ID though. I think we are going to do well. I dreamt of killing a bull the other night. Has to be a good omen, right? Either that or I really need therapy!

...can we vote "Both" here???

...I've had "Moose Dreams", "Elk Dreams", & "Bear Dreams" that have all worked out...

...hell, I believe in "Magic Donuts"...

Bear dreams, man they are the best. I've anticipated more bear kills than I care to remember. Love those dreams.

I am glad I am not the only crazy one here! Yeah, I dream alot of hunts of the past and thinking of the future ones too. Can't beat em!

People who don't hunt and experience the outdoors are really the crazy ones in my book.. Just saying!

Scotty gets a yes vote for crazy from me. Don't know about Gene just yet  Dreaming about "Magic Donuts" could rate a yes vote???

I drew a limited permit Mule Deer Buck tag for east of here about 50 miles. There are right at 100 tags for this draw area and I won't be able to hunt mule deer anyplace else in the state. They do have some nice bucks there too. My buddy shot a real nice 5x5 mule deer there about 3 years ago.

I also just put my son Jeff and I in for moose and sheep tags. I put in areas close to home since he's in High School and with school and activities, it's hard to get him out sometimes. I was going to apply for the Missouri Breaks for a ram, but then he probably would not even be able to go over there with me, or if he did, it would be once for just a few days.

Big muleys are always a good hunt in my book! Hope you guys score!

David,

I'm pulling for you on the mulie. They are a great hunt anytime. It would be great if you and Jeff got either/or moose and sheep. Time spent in the field with your children is precious.

I just found out I got drawn for a general deer license for Montana for the second year in a row. So it is back to the family farm south of Inverness. Hopefully, the farmer who leases it from us will have time to hunt with me again this fall. We will discuss it when I am there doing my best to reduce the gopher population in June. I love the High Line! (at least in Fall, spring and summer)

Good for you 2ndtimer! That is some nice country up there. I notice you said you loved summer there too! Man have you forgotten how hot it can get up there! You are kind of in no-mans land up there between Shelby and Havre. So far the spring has brought us some moisture which means good grass. Deer should be starting to put on some fat! Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks for the kind words, David. But I live and work in the Tri-Cities in Washington State, so am no stranger to summer heat. It is usually 10 to 20 degrees hotter here than in Chester in the summer. They sure have us beat when it comes to cold winters, though. (There are no wimps living year round on the High Line.) I am convinced that the nicest people in America live in North Central Montana.

Just put in the application for a B-elk tag in Montana. Will find out the results in mid July. If I am drawn, that will be a late October hunt. After that it is just the clan getting together for the Minnesota deer season.
