Winchester M70's new chamberings

I like to see gun companies are starting to step outside of the box. Between the .264 Winchester and Kimber stepping up big with the 35 whelen, it's a good time to be in the market for a gun. I wonder if remington will counter with?

The Kimber is still a player in my mind as well. I do like their rifles, just wished I knew I was going to get a good one.

I believe I just saw my tax return flash before my eyes! I have always wanted a .264WM but that .338 alaskan is speaking to me  How will I ever decide??? :( :( :(

If by "decide" do you mean which one you will get first? :)
.

Now there is a NOVEL idea  :!: You are a very wise man my friend. Now could you help me devise a plan to sneek them into the house past the wife???

The old "I'm going shooting" trick... leave the house with an empty case, come back with a full one!

Unless something has changed within the past several weeks, Winchester is not marketing actions at this time.

Having the Alaskan in .338 WM out now is great. I would be interested in one, but what I am really waiting for is the reintroduction of the .375 H&H.

You know when you think about it, everyone is oohing and ahing about the reintroduction of the .264 WM and the . 338 now.......... just need the .458 WM back in the African and we have the original concept repeating itself.

Really, if you had a .264, .338 and a .458 (especially with current powders and bullets) you have all the bases covered............. just as the original idea intended.

That would do it alright!

or 257---- 300--------- 416/378/460 Bees?

tempting but nothing my 270 Bee will not do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you happen to notice the bases? The yahoo has two windage adjustable (ie. rear) bases on it. There's a bonus worth at least $100 extra! Nice rifle otherwise. And only about ab hour from my house.

Factory guns 264WM?

Crap...another thing I didn't know I needed until now.

I've handled each of these, and they are really sweet.

Nice. Have not been keeping up on it as much as I should. Mind you I will never see one in any of the stores where I live. The closest large gun store is a 4 hour drive and I know they will not carry any of them............... have to wait until I go on holidays somewhere like Calgary. :)

BK maybe Winchester will just go crazy on us and throw a 6mm Remington into the mix! Remington has it in their limited edition CDL this year, but with the horror reports I've heard about quality as of the last few years, I made the decision to pass. Besides Ruger started putting the mighty 280 Remington in their Hawkeye Sporter this year, and I can feel it pulling strongly at my heart strings.

If Winchester did chamber the 6mm Remington I'd be signing up for one today! Speaking of 280's Kurt, what if Winchester pulled that one on us too and put the 280 out in their line-up? Then what the heck is a guy supposed to do. I can see it now, new chamberings (mid-year) for the model 70, 6mm Remington and 280 Remington. I must be dreaming..........

There 375, 416 and 458's are VERY sweet handling rifles. They are a little chunky, but it seems like they would carry pretty nicely and the ones I have seen look excellent.

Hodgeman, I hate when I find things I didn't need yesterday either! I imagine they will be putting it in the Extreme Weather before too long as well.

As I said, I've handled all three of these rifles. They have great fit and finish. I wouldn't mind having the 375 H&H.

I hope it happens to you! You can feel my pain. Fotis found me a NIB 7WSM laminate from NH, and I bought it, well, not more than a couple of weeks later, I see they started chambering the 7WSM again. Just the way it goes.

Same thing with the darned 25-06, I wanted a 25-06 worse than bad, I figured since Winchester didn't chamber one, the Remington CDL would be a great addition, it was, until it just didn't wanna cooperate. About the time I got the 25-06 the way I wanted, Winchester released their 25-06's!!!!!! I was about as mad as I could get...

Then, I figured it would be a longshot for the 264WM to get chambered in a M70 anytime soon, well, I bought mine last year, a nice Classic Sporter, well, low and behold a 264WM..

I am almost too scared to to anything... I am like a deer in headlights right now!

Well if that's the case your beloved 35 Whelen is coming soon.

Well, I guess you never know huh? I am ordering some new scope mounts for the old CDL. I think I will suffer with it a bit longer. I wanna see what plays out.

Scotty ,

Get the 375 Ouch & Ouch instead. One step up from the Whelen.

210 X at 3125 fps
235 X at 2986 fps
250 X at 2875 FPS
260 AB 2850 FPS
300 PT 2670 FPS

All values generated by Quickload. Interestingly enough these highest speeds were all obtained by RL17.

Who needs a Whelen?
