Looking to get a carbon 6 barrel on a 700 short action in .243win. What is a good barrel length and twist rate for predominantly 90 accubonds and once in a while some 55gr ballistics tips? Is a 20 inch barrel to short?

I'm looking to shoot the same range of bullets (with a little heavier gr bullet on the top end to use on whitetail) and ordered a barrel with a 1:8 twist and 22 inches in length. Haven't got the barrel back yet, and haven't fully decided whether to chamber it in 243 or 6 mm Creedmoor. The .243 bore is new to me, but based on the reading I've done, the 1:8 twist is said to handle the 105 gr bullets well for game animals and long range play, and will fling the smaller 55-gr stuff pretty well out to 300 yds or so.

I'd go 1-8 and probably 1-7. Twist won't hurt good bullets and it leaves you with any option you wanna shoot.

I'd be just fine with a 20" 243..

Thanks. The 20in will be a sure thing. Making it my walking gun. Should be super lightweight.
