Thanks for the compliment CloverLeaf. Sorry for the late response,I have been on family vacation. I actually responded earlier in the post about clear coats.
Bottom line is Krylon works great,it is cheap, easy to do and easy to re-do. It will wear off over time and field use. But you can just...
I have replaced sveral of mine with them. I use eother Callahan or Gre-Tan replacements. The black ones match pretty well, the Stainless do not. They are a different "shade" I would say, doesnt look terrible, just not an exact match.
It is very easy to,could have been done in the time it took me...
Thanks for all the kind words guys. I am very happy with it. Wish I could take better pictures to really show the details.

Some very interesting reading here. I have spent the last several years living/hunting in Alaska. Hunting anything and everything, and being in every corner of the state. So with that knowledge I have decided to add my 2 cents............................for whats it's worth.
Some very important...
Oops, almost forgot about Bansner stocks. Very lightweight and wont break the bank. I had one of these on an older 700 and though it was a nice stock for the money. Tightened up the groups quite bit.

You said you dont like McMillan's, but the their Edge is very light weight and doesnt have any texture I believe. It has the normal Palm swell & fore-end checkering but that is about it. Going price for a LA 700 is about $600 and a 5 or 6 month wait.

If you are looking for "one load" to do anything with, the 200gr Partition over RL-22 is tough to beat. I used this combo for 3 years in Alaska and never had a problem. The 200gr TSX would also be very nice.
Good luck-Tim
I am from Alaska (currently stationed in Nebraska however) but do make it up there every year to hunt. I did not pull any tags this year but still have a few hunts planned. Good luck in Kodiak, tough hunting down there.

If you are looking for spray can Clear Coat, Krylon Matte works the best. I use Duracoat Clear Coat and it is dang near indestructable. Make sure to put 3 or 4 light coats on for even protection.

Shooter's Pro Shop currently has the 140's in stock. They are seconds however, if that makes a difference to you.

Looks good. I have Duracoated about 10 guns and about 25-30 stocks so far and have no complaints with it.
SakoSteve, it sounds like your mixture was a little off. In the directions it says mix 1 parts to 4, but I have had better luck mixing 1 to 3. Sanding it and degreasing it should have...
This is on the Alaska Penninsula (cant give up the secret spot  ) It is also a draw tag in this area, and after 4 years I finally drew it. I am still a resident there so no guide was needed (it is for non-resi's though).
Great hunt with a good buddy, he got a beautiful 5 1/2 ft black...
