Public Land Turkey Hunting Tips

on yesterdays walk I came across where turkeys have been dusting , in a sandy patch on a dirt road . I didn't have my phone along yesterday . I'm sure there were 4 dusting bowls here yesterday . I got out early today , trying to beat the rain . today there are six dusting bowls . I usually only see one , with maybe a second one off a little ways . I took a bunch of pics trying to show what these dusting bowls look like . I think these are the best pics from the bunch I took . this is just one more turkey sign to look for when out scouting . sorry , my dog Sally had to walk across them a little . I find these in dirt spots . in the open canopy where there is dry dusty dirt . I know where there is a single one , I'll try to get pics of it tomorrow . maybe todays rain won't ruin it .this is on a very hard pack road . the turkey was really digging to get some lose dirt scratched up . a few years ago I watched a hen dusting close to where this single one is . it's comical to watch them dust . wings are out flapping and they are leaning to and fro in this cloud of dust . at first , I thought two birds were fighting . nope just one dusting

Seem like good places to catch birds loafing after the early morning action has settled down.

Dusting bowls are always a good spot to set up. My experience is that they are used late morning through mid afternoon.

that seems to be when I see them at the dusting bowels too , JD . I don't think I've taken a gobbler at a dusting bowel . the gobblers do come in to them

yes , I'm with JD on the better time to be set up on these dusting bowels . later morning to mid afternoon . the first half of PA's spring gobbler season has a noon quitting time . if you find these , keep them in mind for future hunts . you can see how thick the trees are in this area . so don't shy away from thick , dense , areas .

hunt em where ya find em . ;)

we got a hard rain last night . it washed this other dusting bowel to where I couldn't tell where it was , and I knew about where to look . I did find another in sandy dirt , but it got washed to where the picture doesn't show it . . these are both where the loggers stack the logs . I call them log landings . these are out in the more open , with no overhead canopy . tried to post a pic , but it's too big of a file
