Bullet, that is one cool story and some breathtaking shots of some beautiful country. Thanks for sharing that with us. I'll bet that cup of coffee tastes better on top of that mountain too.
What a great post bullet. That is truly a great rifle and a great story of how lawmen of the time made their living. They lived by the winchester and the colt. A true relic to pass on.
Thanks bullet and the rest of you guys. This is a great site and sharing info is all the fun. I'm shooting 75.5 RL25, 215 primer,210 berger match vld, and ww brass. My other load is 75.6 H1000, 9 1/2m primer, nosler brass and a 208 a-max. Both loads are very accurate and they average 2750 and...
Not bad bullet, especially considering the weather. It came through us fast and furious last night at around 1 am. We had 60-70 mph winds. I had Gustav flashbacks.
I see that 358 it spot on and I believe with a little more work that the '06 will be. Keep up the good work.
I think you're going to really like the way she shoots now. Boy what a find. These new rifles and the quality built into them is phenomenal. And now you're going to be on fired brass and not new brass.
Spot on DrMike. These rifles are way more accurate than one can even imagine. They will shoot with the big boys at 100 yards. I can only imagine at this point shooting game with this rifle. It's pretty substantial as you referred to.
Good deal JD. I acquired an 18.5" guide gun from bullet in 450 marlin and I really love it too. There's something nostalgic with these large caliber lever guns. By the way, mine shoots great also. I can't wait to shoot something with this rifle.
Make sure the rifle is cleaned with a good bore cleaner and fouled with 10 to 12 shots before making any determinations. Also make sure to wait 5 minutes between rounds to let the barrel cool and three shot groups are fine as 4 or 5 shot groups may make you flinch. The 338-378 is very powerful...
Bullet, my rifles always shot better after 50-60 rounds or so and a couple of cleanings. So from that, I think that the best is yet to come and what I'm seeing now is you have a real shooter. That's a very good group from a brand new rifle, a good looking one at that.
I'm thinking in a 6.5" barrel about 20 to 21 grains of w296 under a 300 grain pill is about all you can get out of a 44 mag in a 626. Of course, work up to this level.Good luck with the bears:grin:
Bullet, typical hunting bullets like around .020 - .040 jump to the lands if your rifle can do that. On the other hand, VLD type bullets like little or no jump to the lands. I've always seated my hunting loads within these parameters. You will just have to try to see what works best for you.
IMR 7828 works for my daughters youth rifle and a 20" barrel. I'm shooting 44.0 grains IMR 7828 and getting 2700fps average velocity with a 95 gr. ballistic tip. This load works well on deer out to 200 yards and groups sub-moa at 100. Recoil is mild and pleasant to shoot. No large flash to scare...
