Yeah, that is one cool group and what an exciting morning. I really worked hard last night to make sure my reloads were the best I could do and I also worked hard making sure that I had proper shooting technique and consistent position from shot to shot. I can't say enough about he trigger on this Ruger. I was totally blown away yesterday and today with how nice it is. It is so much fun to shoot a rifle that is not suppose to shoot like a custom and then to be able to do it. Yep, God gave me another good morning and fun with my new rifle and loads. This will be fun to use next fall in those creek bottoms that bump up against those pine thickets for sure.

Just try not to fall out of any more brush piles with it!

Man don't even bring that back up about falling off that log pile. My chest every once in a while reminds me. It is all but healed now. I had a dream the other night bout fallen off that log pile and I woke up abruptly as I lifted myself from the floor. I rolled off the bed in my sleep while dreaming of that event.

Congratulations on one great shooting rifle and load. You are done.

I will be interesting to see how the 225 gr PT's shoot for you.
As an FYI, I got great accuracy from the 225 gr Sierras in my 35 Whelen, even shot a couple ragged hole groups. The 225 gr PT didn't shoot quite as well as the Sierra but still under MOA accuracy out to 300 yds. The 225 gr PT is what I have used with great results on WT deer and a 250 gr Black bear.

I plan on using the 225 gr AB next. Are you gong to give it a try in your 358 Win?

JD338

Yes, I am going to try the 225gr Partitions with this load.

POP, as far as the 225gr Sierra I am done. Might never duplicate this group but he 46.5grs of 2495 will give me good groups no matter what so yes I am done with this load. Still have the 225gr Partitions to do.

Wow, that is awesome. You have a really accurate "brush gun". HA. There is nothing in NA that will take a 225gr bullet at under 300 and make it very far. It looks like your load worked really well. I am dieing to get home and start cranking out some rounds now. I need to get a scope and mounts for the Browning. If I can shoot HALF as good as you do I will be pretty satisfied. That rifle and scope look fantastic. I am really jealous of that rig. I might have to look into that scope for the BLR. It may be just the ticket! Scotty

Bullet, if you wouldn't mind, could you PM me some of your better loads so I can save them for reference to when I start loading. Scotty

I have always felt that sub MOA was an advantage even up close in thick brush where you can thread the needle.
The VXIII 1.5x5 is a great little scope. Another excellent choice is the VXIII .1.75x6.

Keep us posted on your load development.

Will do. I agree it is great to have it more accurate than less. But if I can get a rifle to shoot into an inch or better, I am pretty happy. Especially if it is getting the velocity I want.

I am really more concerned with mounts. I think I want to do a quick detachable mount for the rifle. So if I kill an elk, I can take the scope off and make the rifle a little slicker for packing and still use the irons. Not sure, I might do the Warns QD rings. Scotty

No problem and one good thing with the 225gr bullet and the 358Win cartridge you can't over load the round with the powders I give you because they are all compressed charges and there was not even a rolling of the lip where the firing pin hits the primer. This is one efficient round and a barrel could last two life times of serious shooting with no problem. Here are the loads that performed the best in accuracy in order of best to worst. 46.5grs Accurate, 46grs Accurate, 47grs Accurate, 49.5grs Varget, 48.9grs IMR4320 and OAL was 2.7695"

Yes, very good point about treading the needle and also with this round it is moving at the perfect speed to not deflect much at all if it does hit brush on the way. Waters and others years ago did test and found that bullets weighing 165grs and up at 2000-2500fps were not bothered as much by brush at these velocities as they were below them or above these velocities.

I really do like this VX-III 1.5-5, it really is good glass that tracks right were you move it.

Mike,

Glad to hear that the scope has worked out well for you. It really is a fine scope that looks as if it was made for that rifle. Consequently, I haven't played with the 2495, so I bought a pound yesterday. You definitely stimulated me to give it a look.

It has been a consistent under an inch powder on all three loads I shot with it as noted in an earlier post. 47grs got me to 2446fps and it was under an inch also.
