    Have I got this right?

The Solid Base jacket is extruded just like the BT, with the same underlying design with the heavy [solid base]. The only real difference being the lack of the poly tip. The SB tends to exibit more controlled expansion than the BT.

270 150 grain Accubond vs Partition powder capacity

I would agree with the other guys, but there isn't a 150gr Accubond in .270. The 140gr Accubond is about the same length as the 150gr Partition though I would just suggest seating the bullet further out of the cartridge. That is of course assuming that your magazine will handle the length and...

Nosler Partition Hand Gun Bullet ?

Honestly with the point blank range capability with the 225gr partition in the 35 Rem Mag I wouldn't even think of loading the 180 PHG bullet. With such low bc and sd the effectual gain from the lighter bullet will be lost rather quickly once that bullet leaves the barrel. There are threads...

    Leupold VX-II 1x-4x vs. VX-III 1.5x-5x for Dangerous Game

This is a reply from a source at Leupold. I've made my decision on the VX2. Hope that this is of some help to you 7mmfan.

    .450 Marlin

Speaking from a hot 45-70 load standpoing. Can be devistating on smaller deer. My dad took a quartering to shot on a blacktail buck a few years back and we named it the shoebox deer. The cut and wrapped meat barely filled a shoe box, the rest was mush and bloodshot. Great elk load for close...

    Leupold VX-II 1x-4x vs. VX-III 1.5x-5x for Dangerous Game

I too would like to hear from anyone with experience comparing these two scopes. I am looking into the VX-2 1-4 for a .350 Rem Mag, but would consider being swayed toward the VX-3 1.5-5 via valid arguments. 1.6-4.2 is Leupold's listed 'actual' magnification for the VX-2 and it's 1.5-4.5 on the...

    BT and CT Silvertip differences

The black oxide "Lubalox" coating is marketed by Winchester to be an anti-fouling coating that, unlike moly, doesn't coat the barrel. That and the color of the tips is the only difference.

.30cal partition vs. .30cal partition protected point

Think your way out into the field. Does the deer/elk/caribou/etc care about the bc? How much difference is it really going to make on paper, let alone in the field? Besides, if you are going to load up your mag with the sp's in your 300 and fire off 4 shots, by the time you get to the 3rd and...

.30cal partition vs. .30cal partition protected point

"The protected point is made for magazines like the 300 Win Mag. Same bullet, just one has a blunt nose." -Nosler I like the pp because those noses get squished and/or bent over anyway. This is like a preventative measure, like you said it is likely to happen on the way down the barrel anyhow.

Conflicking stories on the .458 Protected point by Nosler!

I agree. The 300 is a light bullet for 450 velocity loads.

    For the Nosler guys

There would in fact be a considerable cost increase. If you were to gauge this by the cost difference of the BT versus the Accubond, we are looking at 35%-65% cost increase on the box of bullets with the larger calibers having a higher percentage rise. Now that isn't much if we are looking at...

Conflicking stories on the .458 Protected point by Nosler!

It is a very hard bullet. My dad loads them in his 45-70 Marlin 1895 as 'mean-n-nasty' elk loads. They run hot and fast and perform like you'd expect a partition to. I don't know why you would even have one running below the 1700fps level in a Marlin. I know that the .44 bullet of the same...

    Savage Hunter vs. Savage Varmint

I have a 10fp with the 24" bull, it shoots .5moa with 55gr BT's. I purchased it before the accutrigger and put in a timney. I have been overjoyed with the performance of the action and the 24" with the 1-9 twist. I wouldn't want the 26" with the performance I get from the 24".

    For the Nosler guys

If I were marketing the Nosler products I would most likely encourage you to look at the CT category of bullets that they offer. With the Partition Gold and the Fail Safe lines those pretty much close the gap between Partition and let's say what Barnes offeres in their X line. If you look at...

Need help with 180 gr. Accubonds in .30-06

My pet load in my 30-06 is 57.0gr H4831. It is a 30 year old Remington with a 22" barrel that shoots sub-moa all day long with that load.

    Best bullets for black bear

I was not going to reply as I am not overly experience with black bear but here goes. I hunt in territory where the black bears tend on the smaller side, however, my Southern Oregon trophy field dressed at 380 lbs and measured right at 7'. At the time I was sporting a .30-06 with 165 Partition...
