Alaskan Brown Bear Almost gets the Hunters

This is the exact reason that many guides won't allow "hand loads" on Brown Bear hunts........ Polar bear guides absolutely all said NO to handloads for this very reason! They ALL had problems with them. Shade tree; If you were ever with me on a bear hunt, and listen to the impact of a 100yd...

Alaskan Brown Bear Almost gets the Hunters

Well when I was a snot nosed apprentice guide back in 1970's . Old Ward Gay who had guided Kodiak since 1930's told me . " Son never more than 100 yds and never less than 50yds". He knew exactly what he was talking about. Same thing holds true today.......... Fireing at bears are 400 yds is...

What have you taken moose with?

175 yds. 73" Alaskan Bull one shot with 180 gr Partitions...... Plain Jane old 30/06....... One of many dozens that have fallen to that non- magnum caliber.

Sum up "what have you taken XYZ with?" Threads

I used an old 6.5x55 to shoot dozens of big Red Stag on New Zealands South Isle. They are no harder to kill than a big Maine Whitetails, it would flatten em...... Ditto with the Chamois/ Thar.

    The all arounder/utility/truck rifle

I have a 22/250 under the seat of my truck. 8 twist loaded with 90 gr bullets @3000. On wing strut of the Cub I have .243W but sometimes I reverse which gun is where. Both work equally well on winter Coyotes up to 50lbs.

The Runner(s) Up - All around cartridge

This is a prime example of a Magnum rifle on a bear at over 400. We saw this same result many times over the years.

The Runner(s) Up - All around cartridge

An interesting note on this choices; it never ceases to amaze me how many folks own 2/3/4 MAGNUM rifles...??? However I really wonder what percentage of them will ever hunt Africa/Alaska.????? When I quiz hunters WHY they think they need one they all say " so I can take 400 PLUS yard shots". Of...

35 Remington Case trim length for Hornady 200gr. FTX

Thanks for clearing that issue up! That all makes sense for sure! One side of me wants to always lean towards higher BC bullets like the spire pt or FTX style. BUT: in reality, for the actual distances that are practical for a 35 Remington, 150 yds/ 200 as a streach??? I think it may be silly to...

35 Remington Case trim length for Hornady 200gr. FTX

Not sure on the FTX but on the Hornady 200 gr Spire Pt Standards, I recently have found out, the canulure won't even come close to letting me crimp in it; for my old 141 Remington. With cases trimed to 1.910 and crimped in canulure, the coal was 2.550/5, however that will NOT cycle thru this...

    New primers on the way

This is one of the best scams ever launched against the American people. If you can't get their guns, what is the same thing, take away the "primers" you have accomplished the same thing! The big boys have made back room deals to forbid the sale of primers, the great lie has been, they largest...

    Those Were The Days

Here are primers bought the same day I bought the 250gr Speers . I know I was buying primers then when I had a Hazmat order for $25 per thousand...... 😱

    Hunting goals.

We used to hunt snowy days tracking whitetails in the 70's/80's with Savage 1899 and Lyman tang sight. But by 90's we were using low power Scopes like 1.5/5 power. This fall I am going to regress back to hunting "the old way". Either the 141 Remington in .35 Rem with 200gr bullets @ 2200fps. Or...

    New 45/70 from Santa!

That is another beautiful rifle. I can certainly see why you are a Henry guy! Well good to hear your still able to do the open sights, I am ok with a tang sight but rear sight on barrel is about out of the question for me anymore, looking forward to seeing how it will shoot those old 300gr...

    6.5-06

If a guy handloads; there are some huge advantages over the 25/06 with a 6.5x06. The bullet selection is incredible compared to your options with the old .257..... That and the fact the twist most 25/06 barrels is hopeless to stabilize most of the custom bullets that would have much higher BC...
