    Wyoming Doe Antelope Hunt

Howdy! Pronghorn are my favorite animals to hunt and eat. I've taken 25+ over the past 35 years. Here's a great book on the creatures: http://www.amazon.com/Built-Speed-Year-Life-Pronghorn/dp/0674011422/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1408201827&sr=1-1&keywords=built+for+speed I've hunted...

    Accubond

Congratulations on the Elk. Where were you hunting, etc.? I took a cow elk last week on Vermejo Park Ranch in northern New Mexico. Took us two days to find the cows. Counted 38 bulls in groups of 3 to 7 most within 100 yards over those two days--a couple of them really nice 360+ 6X6's. They...

    7mm STW - range report

Made it out to the range today. The tripod on the chronograph broke, so I don't have velocity data. The 80.0 gr of RL25 behind the 160grAB to OAL of 3.565 was quite accurate--for me anyway. I don't have that program you have and don't really understand MOA all that well, but I shot a three shot...

    7mm STW - range report

My A-Bolt seems to prefer H1000 slightly over RL25. I load the 160 AB with 80.3gr of H1000 to an OAL of 3.565 which seems to be my magic number for accuracy. I'm going out to the range next weekend. Maybe I'll post some data and we can compare notes. Thanks for the pics, btw.

    Javelina Hunt

Thanks for the advice and the cool pics. I'm looking forward to the hunt. I wasn't thinking that they would be hard to kill, but was more thinking of meat destruction since they're so small anyway. I don't know if they're palatable having never eaten one. I figure that there's only one way to...

    Javelina Hunt

I only have 165/168 grains on hand. :( I was going with the BT's but wanted other opinions. What about shot placement? I thought I would go for a neck shot behind the ear if given the opportunity.

    Javelina Hunt

Going out on the San Carlos Indian Reservation next month hunting javelina. Taking the Winchester Model 88 .308 with open sights. Ballistic tip, combined technology or partition?

How to tell when your throat/barrell is finished?

I've used Hoppes for 30 years too and didn't really consider that there might be something more aggressive out there. Excellent advice. I'll try something else and post an update. Thanks!

How to tell when your throat/barrell is finished?

I've been hunting with a Ruger M77 7mm RM for coming up on 30 years. I'd say about 80% hand loads over its life. Who knows how many rounds? It started getting a little squirrely a few years back so I bought a Browning A-Bolt in 7mm STW which has been as accurate as can be. Last year I cleaned...

    What tags have you drawn?

I drew two doe antelope tags in Utah opening 10/3. Hunted there last year and missed my shot. Looking forward to the opportunity to redeem myself.

    Vermejo Park NM Elk

Went on our sixth Vermejo Park cow elk hunt last week. I love that ranch. Had to hunt a little harder this year as the temps were unseasonably warm and the elk hadn't come off of the rimrock completely. 7mm STW, 160gr NAB, 80grs H1000, 3,400fps, 380yds Nice young cow--maybe 2 1/2 years...

Were I a mod there, I would have deleted your posts based on your atrocious spelling alone.

    2008 Caribou Hunt a Success!

Thanks for the detailed info, hde. It seems to me a reasonable price considering that guided bull elk in NM in a decent area would start at the same rate and go up from there. The outfitter we use in NM is interested in Caribou hunting. I'll see if I can talk him into it next year. And, a...

First hunt of the season and Nosler brass

We hiked in and the antelope noticed us before we noticed them. I tried my whistle, but there had been enough shooting that morning [some a__hole shot fifteen times at ONE antelope on the adjacent ranch just prior] that they had lost their curiosity. They circled us and I took a broadside...

First hunt of the season and Nosler brass

September is turning out great. Took a doe antelope last weekend SE of Mountainair, NM. Best shot of my life. I have never shot at moving game, but it was clear this weekend that my only opportunity would be a shot to 225 yds at an antelope running 25 mph. The 160 gr Accubond out of the 7MM STW...

    2008 Caribou Hunt a Success!

Wow! Way cool. My hunting partners and I were thinking of doing a caribou hunt next year in lieu of our annual antelope/elk hunts. Do you know anything about the caribou hunting in western Canada? Any clue on how much someone should be willing to spend? Congratulations!

    Hunting and Global Warming?????

I have read Nietzsche and part of my dissertation "The Philosophy of Proactive Psychotherapy" demonstrated the failure of Nietzsche's philosophical and personal life. Nietzsche in general was a Nihilist with an assumptive unproven rejection of established social conventions and beliefs...

    finally took the plunge

You got a point there. I actually sent the Leupold in for service. They replaced the erector mechanism and the main tube. I look forward to seeing if it solved the problem which it most likely did. Lifetime unconditional guarantee is something to consider. I like that the new Weavers have...
