I know that most people say they have best accuracy with 200gr bullets but has anyone had any success with lighter bullets in their 300rum?

I have a sps 26" barrel I just kinda wanted to try soem light stuff so I thought I would check and see if any one liked anything they tried.

I have retumbo rl 25 7828 4831 3100 can get others

4831/RL22 might work pretty good but if I really wanted to drop down in bullet weight, I'd first start with H and IMR4350.

RL25 works great with the 150's and 165/168's.

The lightest bullet I went with in my 300RUM was the 180AB. IMO, anything smaller is just going to burn up the barrel faster. I have a 30-06 for 165 and 150 bullets.

I shot 125g nbts and 150g ct nbt's with pretty good accuracy from my LSS.

125's were going 3950fps with RL-22, and the 150's were going 3800fps with H1000.

Didn't shoot many of them. Barrel wont last to long with a steady diet of these...

+1

The 300 RUM is at its best with 180 gr-200 gr bullets.

Tried some 165's out of my Sendero, but wasn't too impressed... mine seems to like the 180's the best.

JD338 has the weights pegged.
There's no question that the 150 & 165 gr. loads start out faster BUT the 180 & 200 gr bullets catch up and surpass the lighter weights at about 300 yds. It's the same old rule of thumb. "Every cartrige has it's most efficient weight bullet based on caliber, weight and sectional desity". Were that not the case every caliber would be loaded with the lightest bullets available. My 300 RUM likes 180 gr. Accubonds with 101 grs. Retumbo and Federal 215 primers. Cartridge OAL of 3.660 and case length of 2.84"at 3332 avg fps.

Nitis, stay with the slower powders.
Fasted I would go is either H1000, or H4831. Rl 25, IMR7828, bigboy, ect are the powders for that gun. If you have any surpluss powders such as WC 868 WC860 or WC872, they also work, in the order listed for lighter bullets.

Thanks for those who replied again I know heavier tends to be better but I just was curious if anyone had any success and what those loads were just to try

i had good results with 168 barnes ttsx with 93.6 gr rl 25
coal 3.650. wlrm or cci 250 mag primers. average around .5 -.6"
i shot a 10 shot group saturday just for fun. turned out at 1.25" with 7 shots in .58". velocity is slow out of my gun at 3150 fps
but it duplicate the 180 grain Partition factory loads i've been using for years. since i know the trajectory and how it relates to the ballistic plex
reticule of my burris by heart. it stays at that.

They make some 55gr. sabots for the 30-06 Maybe? I'm just kidding but the 300 is just so much capacity that it can send a 180 gr bullet to 300 yds with more energy than the 150 or 165. But as Antelope_Sniper said it will smoke a varmint in a most dynamic fashion.
How's that 358? Did it get you the trade value you hoped?

I tried 165 BTs in my Rem 300 um and they were all over the paper. 180 Gr. BTs group @ 5.8". Kept the 165s for my 06.

 A 5.8" group???? At what yardage or is this a typo error?

Sorry, fingers bigger than laptop keys. The group measured 5/8", about .6inches. The BTs are the best in accuracy I have been able to get in my Rem Mountain rifle and in 05, I took a Pa. whitetail @429 yards.
