18" 22-250 Loads

In typical fashion, I buy something then start asking myself questions. I bought my grandson a Ruger American Compact 22-250 for Christmas. It has a 10 twist 18 inch barrel on it. I want to load up some 65 grain Sierra Game King BTSP bullets for him to pop deer with. In the powder cabinet there's some Winchester 748, Ramshot TAC, H Varget, IMR 3031, H4198, and IMR and H4350. With the goal of kicking the 65 grain bullet up to speed in the 18 inch barrel and minimizing muzzle flash, do any of you have any experience or suggestions? I don't mind buying a different powder if there's one that'll be more efficient given my goals. What do you think?

It doesn't look like any of my powders are up near the top of that list. I have been wanting to try Hunter in my 257 Roberts and my 6.5 Creedmoor. I may as well scoop up a pound.

H4350 will work well for you.

I won't argue with picking up some Hunter though, its my favorite powder in 6.5 Creedmoor.

When loading short barreled rifles I have found H414/w760 with magnum primers will give good velocity. That is where I would start. 37-38gr with 60-65gr hunting bullets in the 22-250. The 70gr speer semi pointed is a very good bullet to try. I buy 500 count bulk Winchester 64gr power points from Midway for my hunting with the .22 centerfires. For hunting lead core bullets there are 4 I would always suggest. 60gr Partition, (just keep the impact velocity down, front splash's then they pencil through if impact velocity is too high) 64gr power point (they hold together well even at high impact velocity) 65gr Sierra spbt get great reviews but I have not killed anything with them, 70gr Speer kill game very well, I have killed muledeer with them with great results using a 22-250.
