Nice buck David! That is excellent! Glad you were able to stock your jerkey stash! HA! Surprised that old 30-06 had enough gas at 200 yards... You must have been holding on the moon to get it in there!

Thanks Scotty. Yeah the old girl had just enough oomph to get her done.  Good thing it was a sharp downhill shot as it helps those "special" 30-06 bullets get there as every little bit of gravity you can get helps you know!

Figured you had to be shooting downhill for that 30-06 to get their, while it was still hunting season! HA!

Scotty, Scotty, Scotty....

Congrats David, really nice buck.

Just finished the first three days of the NY rifle season. My son watched five doe with a 4pt escort walk past his stand. He was scoping out the small buck and decided to pass when he caught movement behind the group of deer. A decent 8 pt stepped out and he took it with our venerable .270Win and a 140gr AB at 2875fps. It dropped on contact.

Two days later this young buck walked out to my stand. I flip-flopped a few times whether or not I would take him and decided to drop him. I have too much to do from the hurricane damage and upcoming holiday. The 358Win and 225gr SGK had no problems finding a way to impart enough damage to his neck and drop him.

Going to use the 257Roberts for doe this weekend. That's half an elk and three deer for the freezer to date. Time to start remembering those who helped out my family while I was on any of my trips away from home this year.

CC, Congratulations to you and your son on a couple of fine bucks. The pressure and demands placed on our time sometimes crimps our well-laid plans. You've each done well.

Hhunter23, is that a private ranch deer or public land? I hunted Utah a lot in the 1982-1999 span. Hard to get a good public land buck, congratulations, nice buck.

David, that is a nice looking, fat, 4-point buck. I would be glad to have it anytime. Great that you had success, especially having to use an '06!

oldtrader3,
this is a public land buck, and thanks for all the comments and congrats. he is at the taxi right now getting the deserved shoulder mount done. i will post pictures when he is completed.

cc, congrats on the fine bucks. i hope the cleaning up effort goes well. i do not envy you new yorkers at all and feel for your loss. i hope all is well.

They look great hanging on the back porch. Just wish my father saw a shooter too. A triple would have been ideal.

The 358Win has proven itself well these past two years with 5 clean harvests. All the more reason to get back on track with the original reason I bought the 30-06 BDL 5 years ago. I think it's time to give Hart Rifle Barrels a call after the holidays.

My cousin also took a nice 7pt with the 25-06 BDL with a 110gr AB at 3220fps. That's four rifles which I load for that have taken game. Still have three to go. :)

I second that idea! Hart certainly provides a quality barrel.

You will never regret a really accurate 35 Whelen!

Or a REALLY accurate 30-06!!  CC congrats to you folks on the great bucks. It sure adds meaning to the hunt, at least for me, to take game with handloads I crafted myself!
David

David,
Nice work! You and DT take some of the best pics on the forum. It's those pics that keep me sane in this floating steel cage of mine. Enjoy the high country and cool weather.
Your Pal,
Joe

Thought I would post up a couple of pics from this year, first up, Wyoming in September.

And my Missouri buck from last week.

The pronghorns were taken with my Savage .25/06 and the 115 grain BT. The whitetail was shot with my old Husqvarna 640 9,3x62, sadly I was not using a Nosler bullet in the Husky, all I had on the bench were some 270 grain Speer bullets.

Bob

God pictures, Bob. You have indeed had a good season. Using Speers in that 9.3X62! I'd say you were lucky that buck didn't walk away when that bullet bounced off! Although I do like Noslers, Speers have always worked well for me in everything I've used them in.

Wow - that's quite a buck - very interesting antlers!

Congrats on a great hunting season.
