I never put this picture up, but I wanted to throw it out there for some of you all to see. I have about 500 60gr PTs and figured they would make a great coyote killer. I am putting the picture of them up of my last range session with the gun. It is a Savage, heavy varmint barrel 22-250 with a 1-14" Twist, sitting in a synthetic stock. It is a really accurate rifle, and I think I could do better with some dedicated load work, but so far, these look pretty good. I didn't chrono the loads, but I would think the 33gr load of Varget would be in the 3300FPS range. I think I could work them up a bit more and see how they go. Scotty

Well, for certain it is minute of coyote! Fine shooting, there, Scotty.

I didn't really do the loads any justice. I picked some powders and used the factory COAL and then loaded up a few charges. I need to get serious with it this Fall. I think there is hope for the Varget to crank them up to 3500 and man, I think it would be a coyote buster. Scotty

Even so, the rifle shows real potential. When I see that sort of accuracy, I know I can really make a load shine. A little tweaking and the groups will produce one ragged hole. Then, Coyotes will begin trembling.

The 60gr Partition would be a great yote bullet out of the -250.

I've never tried any of them out of mine - figured the twist wasn't fast enough.
Now that I think of it though - I've put some 60gr Sierra's down the tube with great results.

Scotty - FWIW, my -250 loves Viht N-140 powder

Mark, once I get home, I will have to see if I can get some of it. I have wanted to try the Viht series, just never have. I know you get some really awesome groups out of yours, so there has to be something to it. I wasn't sure if mine would stabilize them either, as Jim had bad luck with his 1-14 VLS, but it seems like mine does okay and with some tweaking, I am sure I will get them to work properly. I know they would be awesome for yotes. Scotty

My M700 VLS 22-250 has a 1:14 twist and just doesn't want to play with the 60 gr PT.
I found a decent load with the original PT but Nosler changed the profile slightly, just enough to not shoot well in my rifle. I did shoot a coyote with the 60 gr PT, an inverted Texas Heart Shot, entering the chest straight on and exiting just under the vent. If I can get the PT to shoot, it will be my coyote bullet hands down.

Scotty -
You are fortunate to get that bullet to stabalize. My 22-250's do not do well on any bullet over 55 grains. The old #1 I have is being rebarreled with a 1-12 twist just for that reason.

Just curious why you went with a 1:12 instead of a 1:10 twist.

I was thinking of a 1:10 for my M700 VLS 22-250 one of these days.

I still shoot some 40 grain BT's that are pushing 4000 fps. I had a friend that went with a 1 in 10 twist in his 250 and he ended up have some of the light bullets literally come apart because of the excess twist. I was told by a gunsmith that I trust, that too fast of a twist rate will wear the barrel out prematurely as well.

I shoot more bullets in the 40 to 50 grain range with this rifle than I do in the 55 plus range. That was the deciding factor for me. If I ever rebarrel the yote rifle that is a 22-250 as well, it will have a 1 in 10 twist. Will make that an AI at the same time :)
