.243Win. or muzzle brake: dilemma?

The .257 equivalent to a 100 grain .243 bullet is a 115 gr .257 bullet, both at 3000 fps! IMHO, comparing a 100 gr .243 to a 100 gr .257 with a minus 200 fps difference in .250 muzzle velocity and loss of .033 sectional density is not a comparison at all and is not apples to apples. You would have to compare a hot loaded 115 grain .257 bullet to equal a 100 gr .243 bullet, both at 3000 fps to be apples to apples and sectional density to sectional density and then compare at 265 yards. Then you have a fair horse race.

Didnt say I was comparing the two. John Barsness would tend to disagree. His article on the 250 noted the cartrige had a greater sectional density than the 243 (unless I mis-qoute him). However, I was giving the nod to the 243. I would not put a 115 GR anything in my 250 if it had a MV of 3000 fps. But as you've noted that would be a theroretical discussion. As I said, I was in support of the 243 but wouldnt lay down my 250 Sav. and a 100 gr Bt for it either. Both work. CL
