"Maybe the 7X57 that's sitting 54 miles away."

Go for it. I sure enjoy shooting the three I have. I've kindo of gone 7MM happy lately. Thre 7x57's, a .280 Rem. which I'll probably use for my elk hunt and a 7MM Rem. Mag. I've never been all that fond of the magnum but it's a Ruger#1, the price was right and it's 200th Year of American Liberty model so into the #1 collection it went. I' take it on the elk hunt but the outfitter and private ranch have a rule, "NU SINGLE SHOT RIFLES." They are very emphatic about that. What bugs me is I've done three hunts with that outfitter. The antelope in 09, and elk in 10 and this tear were all one shot kills so I'd like t know why can't it use my single loaders?
I'm having my last eye surgery for cataracts done tomorrow andI an concerned about recoil so the .35 Whelen and ..300 Win. Mag. back up guns are staying home this year. :( My .280 Rem. custom came out a bit heavier than I like (9.5 lbs) but recoil is quite mild, even with balls to the wall 175 gr. bullets. I don't have Dr Mike's powder but I'm going to run out and see if I can find some of those 10 gr. ABLRs that worked so well for him.
I do like my .300 Winnie but until I
m positive that the kick won't affect my implanted leses, I'm staying away from the then. Just ain't worth the risk.

Good luck on your hunt, Paul. The .280 will serve you well, I have no doubt.

Its my favorite cartridge, I have several. My favorite is a Ruger No. 1B. The 110 AB and 115 BT do everything I need.

Paul, I have had cataract lens replacements in both eyes. One ten years ago and one 6 years ago and I have been shooting the .340 Weatherby and now the full loaded 9.3x74R ever since and have never had any problems with either eye.
